SouthSounds Takes over Downtown

Friday, April 7th - Sunday, April 9th

Since its genesis in 2011, the SouthSounds Music and Art Festival has been bringing some of the region's best musical talent, and many visitors, to the Port City. Dedicated to showcasing the top emerging and independent Southern music and art, this year's lineup promises to be the biggest and best yet! In addition to the acts on the free, public stage in Cathedral Square, a dozen venues will feature performances in more intimate settings. There's also an artist market in Cathedral Square Saturday and Sunday.

All the music kicks off tomorrow during ArtWalk, so visit SouthSoundsFest.com for a full schedule and to buy tickets.

DEVELOPMENT BUZZ

1702 Real Estate Opens Downtown

With all the property transactions happening downtown, it's no surprise to find more real estate firms locating in the heart of the action. The newest company is 1702 Real Estate, located at 127 Dauphin Street. If you're a little rusty on your Mobile history, that's the year the city was founded by brothers Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville and Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville. The agency specializes in residential real estate with an emphasis on staging a property for a quicker sale.

Sidewalk Refurbishment Project Scheduled
Broken flagstone                                      Missing Grout creates deep crevices     Uneven pavement creates trip hazzards
Beginning in mid– to late April, the City of Mobile will begin a major overhaul of  the sidewalks along some of our major pedestrian thoroughfares. The granite curbs and flagstone borders were installed nearly 20 years ago when the city undertook a major streetscape improvement project. Maintenance has been intermittently performed since then, leaving our sidewalks in less than desirable condition.

The upcoming project will repair and replace broken flagstone, repair uneven sidewalks, replace wheelchair ramps that don’t meet current standards, and re-grout and re-caulk the sidewalk and flagstone seams throughout the areas indicated in the map below. Most of the work will be accomplished without much interruption to pedestrians, but some sections may be closed for short periods of time. If you have any questions or concerns, they should be addressed to Aimee Williams, with the City’s Engineering Department:
251-208-7630 or aimee.williams@cityofmobile.org.
