Brighter Evenings in Downtown Mobile

If you've walked downtown lately at night, you might have noticed it's more welcoming, more cheerful, brighter. The City of Mobile has recently replaced all the globes atop the decorative lamps lining many of our streets. The original globes were installed more than 20 years ago and had yellowed significantly over time. Kudos to the city's electrical department for making downtown a more inviting place to be in the evening!
moda! Service Cut

The hours for the free downtown circulator known as moda! have been drastically reduced. As part of a cost cutting measure, the Wave Transit system now only operates the service Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Additionally, only one vechicle is operating now, meaning waits between pick ups have been 40 minutes to an hour.

Kazoola's Eatery and Entertainment

The Eatery aspect of Kazoola's is still a couple of weeks away, but the entertainment part  is in full swing. Downtown's newest hangout represents a major renovation of a 1830s building once owned by Joe Cain. The establishment's name is taken from one of the Clotilde's most famous survivors, Cudjo "Kazoola" Lewis.

Aflac Regional Office

The supplemental insurance company, Aflac, has opened a regional sales and training office at 111 Dauphin Street. The space is furnished with interesting antiques and architectural finds, something the manager says fits in well with downtown's great vibe.

Socialize Your Bizness

Downtown's newest marketing firm has set up offices in the RSA Battle House Tower. Socialize Your Bizness specializes in brand enhancement through social networking and media. The firm employs about a dozen people locally and many others around the world.

Ron Barrett, LLC

The creative geniuses behind some of Mobile's most glorious events are expanding their downtown business. Ron Barrett and Jim Sapser have purchased the building at 556 St. Louis Street and the lot next door for future growth. It truly is a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

According to J.A. Lankford and Company, Jostens, the class ring and graduation supply company (and the creator of the NCAA National Championship ring), is opening an office in the historic building at 356 Dauphin Street.
