STARLIGHT SUPPER: PICNIC

The eighth annual Starlight Supper is returning May 13, 2021. Get ready for a socially-distanced picnic edition of your favorite outdoor dining event. In lieu of our traditional communal dinner, guests will be invited to pack their best blankets, pillows, and lawn chairs to enjoy a packaged picnic curated by some of the best chefs in OKC.

Each picnic-for-two box will include a selection of savory bites, sweets, and adult beverages (must be 21+ to attend). The evening will be completed with live music, a cash bar, sparkling lights, and more.

All proceeds from Starlight Supper: Picnic benefit Downtown Oklahoma City Initiatives, whose mission is to foster an environment of creativity and culture in downtown OKC through public art and activation.

Save the date for a night under the stars this May! More information coming soon.

VALENTINES DAY IN OKC

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and it is time to start making special plans for you and your loved one. As always, we encourage you to shop local and support local businesses when choosing where to buy your valentines.

Buy a bouquet of flowers from one of our local flower shops, Curbside Flowers, Flour + Flower, Floral and Hardy, Plant ShoppeThe Wild Mother, or XO by Haleigh Kenney. Pick up a gift or card from any of our beloved downtown boutiques, including the beautifully decorated Black Scintilla. Also, be sure to make dinner reservations, or place a to-go order, at your favorite restaurant ahead of time and spend the day showing love to local downtown businesses.
COLLECTIVE WEALTH BY JARICA WALSH
NEW EXHIBIT AT 21C MUSEUM

A new exhibition, Collective Growth includes work by Oklahoma City artist Jarica Walsh and is now open to the public for timed admission reservations.

Jarica Walsh’s exhibition Collective Growth brings together a variety of botanical cyanotypes made from plants and leaves found in private “corona gardens,” on the grounds of the future First Americans Museum, and around her Oklahoma City neighborhood during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Collective Growth, Walsh explains, focuses on a need for “collective healing in response to collective trauma” and “speaks to movement and progress without minimizing trauma.”

For more information, or to make an admission reservation, visit 21cmuseumhotels.com.

LAND RUN MONUMENT INTERPRETATION PROJECT

The city of Oklahoma City office of arts & cultural affairs has created a call to indigenous Scholars & Knowledge Keepers for a Land Run Monument interpretation project on the lower Bricktown Canal.

The City of Oklahoma City’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs has a role as a Collection Manager for the City’s public art collection. Staff and the community are aware that the Land Run Monument does not represent a complete history that includes the loss felt by Oklahoma’s Indigenous people and the resulting invisibility that is also seen as extermination. The monument, presented in a high-traffic tourist area in such a grand and monumental way while telling only one side of the story, symbolizes a threat to indigenous people.

BARKEEP SUPPLY
A NOTE FROM OWNER

  J U L I A  M C L I S H

Barkeep is a cocktail supply store in Midtown that specializes in bitters, mixers, tools and accessories. I was a former bartender and decided to open my own shop in 2018. I wanted to open Barkeep because I saw a need in OKC for craft cocktail-related supplies and I thought it would be a hit. Once I found out I could add a bar inside, I was off and running. I truly love bartending and "humble hospitality" is my passion.

Nhu Avenue in Midtown is my favorite local place to shop. The owner, Lanh, curates the best clothes. But, I also love to shop there for bags, sunglasses and other fun accessories.

 E A T
By far one of the best meals I have had in OKC has been at Nonesuch. They are so creative, hyper local and they have some of the greatest people in the industry.

 P L A Y
R&J's Lounge and Supper Club is such a great place to spend an afternoon or evening. I love the dark, little bar and they have a killer patio with the best bartenders! Next time you're there, order a "juicy daiquiri".
