MIDTOWN WALKABOUT WEEKEND

Midtown Walkabout is returning this month! Once again, we’re putting a new spin on our bi-annual event and turning it into Midtown Walkabout Weekend.

Midtown Walkabout Weekend will take place on Friday, October 23rd & Saturday, October 24th and will put you in the fall spirit with seasonal promotions and activities for those shopping, eating, and visiting the district as well as for the folks at home. Midtown merchants will provide specials, discounts, and activities during their normal operating hours each day, and there will be free pop-up programming to enjoy such as live music, art demonstrations, and photo ops during certain hours Friday and Saturday.

Check next week's newsletter or RSVP to our Facebook event page for up to date information on programming and participating businesses.

VIRTUAL SAINTS SANTA RUN

Each year, our family-friendly holiday run brings young and old, and even pets, to downtown Oklahoma City for a festive 5K. In 2020, the run is coming to you! The virtual Saints Santa Run can be completed on a treadmill, around your neighborhood, on your favorite jogging trail, or on our suggested route in Midtown.

This virtual 5K is a great way to stay active and spread holiday cheer, without spreading germs. Sign up online and complete your run anytime, anywhere during the month of December. Early bird registration is available now through October 30, so don't wait!

Find more information and register for the run at okc.enmotive.com.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Dress for Success Oklahoma City has a new office that is bigger and better than ever. Tune in today, October 14, at 11am to watch their ribbon-cutting ceremony live-streamed on Facebook. The ribbon-cutting will be followed by a virtual tour of their amazing new office. You'll be guided through the new space as if you are actually there!

Tune in live on Dress for Success' Facebook page.

SPOOKY POOCH PARADE

Is your dog always the best dressed? Come to Myriad Botanical Gardens on October 18 and let them be the judge at their annual Spooky Pooch Parade. Sponsored by OKC Vet Campus, this event is custom fit for a fun and socially distanced outing.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third-place finishers. New this year are separate categories for small and large dogs. To strut your stuff, dogs must be leashed at all times and updated on vaccines. Dogs will be judged while social distancing, and masks are required.

Find more information and register for the contest at oklahomacitybotanicalgardens.com.
JONESTOBERFEST

The 3rd Annual JONESTOBERFEST is back for a week-long celebration starting on October 20 through October 24. Get ready for German food, live music, and of course, lots of bier! It's all taking place in The Jones Assembly "biergarten" also known as their incredible outdoor patio.

This event is free and open to the public. Join the fun for live music each day, brats, pretzels, cheese curds, schnitzel on a stick and a variety of German beirs to be enjoyed in the biergarten.

ART ON TAP: TAPROOM EDITION

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is partnering with six local breweries from October 23 through November 1 for a variety of COVID-safe, socially distanced promotions in their taprooms.

Proceeds from this beer-loving event will be going back to the Museum. After working hard to assemble a group of breweries that you know love, OKCMOA invites you to raise a glass and join in on the fun of this year's Art on Tap: Taproom Edition.

SHOP GOOD
A NOTE FROM OWNER

At Shop Good, we stock our shelves with goods for everyday adventures. We screen print tee shirts, sweatshirts, bandanas, hats, and greeting cards — all by hand, with an eco-friendly process that you can watch while you browse in-store. Then we surround those carefully crafted goods with curated accessories, handcrafted novelties, live urban-jungle-style plants, and scouted vintage finds.

If you’ve gotten a gift from me in the last year, it’s probably been a plant. My buddy Steve from Southern Window curates an amazing collection of leafy friends, from hard-to-find tropicals to easy-care rookie plants, plus beautiful handmade planters that make them incredibly giftable. He built a pergola-style paradise in the front corner of our shop where he’ll give advice about plants that will work best for you and then will expertly pot up your new greenery in the planter you choose. Follow him @southern_window for great houseplant care tips.

Since opening the shop 10 years ago, my mornings have pretty much always started with a stop next door at Coffee Slingers (latte with whole milk, no frills). They’re as attentive to their craft as we are to ours, roasting their own beans in house and delivering a perfect cup every time. With free wi-fi, 6:30am service, and socially distanced seating, I like to come early to really get a head start on the work day.

When I need to clear my head in the mid-afternoon, my favorite thing to do is go grab a drink and a few minutes to myself in the taproom at Vanessa House Brewing Co. The guys are so friendly and know what I like, so the recommendations are always on point. I’ll often bring a book to read in the sunlight of the big windows or take my stress out on one of the (free!) arcade games. If you bring a friend, there are board games and monthly Bingo Bango Songo nights!
