New Year Greetings

We wish you a great start of the year 2017!

As we look behind, the year 2016 was an important milestone for GAAMAC. We had the GAAMAC II meeting; the initiative of the African Working Group to develop a “Manual of best practices on the establishment of national mechanism for mass atrocity prevention”; the Steering Group meetings and the establishment of its Virtual Working Groups. All these efforts contributed to strengthening the atrocity prevention community through exchanging more knowledge, forging stronger networking and sharing up-to-date information.

We look forward to pursuing this engaged and committed cooperation with you and all the states, civil society organizations and individuals committed to preventing atrocities in this world.

GAAMAC II Online Report

Read the Online Report of the GAAMAC II meeting in February 2016.

It offers a short overview of the meeting, video highlights, quotes from participants, and a summary of meeting outcomes.

The full videos allow you to look at the GAAMAC II's plenary sessions and in-depth interviews with participants.

Kindly circulate the Online Report within your network.

GAAMAC II Evaluation Questionnaire

Tell us what you wish to happen during GAAMAC III!

As we are already preparing GAAMAC III, we wish to receive your insights, opinions and evaluation of GAAMAC II. It will help us in the preparation of GAAMAC III.

Each participant of GAAMAC II should have received a separate email with the online evaluation questionnaire.

If you have participated in GAAMAC II, but have not yet received the evaluation, kindly email contact@gaamac.org.

We look forward to receiving your answers by 28 February 2017 when the evaluation period will close.

Steering Group Updates

The GAAMAC Steering Group (SG) meeting on 28-29 June 2016 in Bern, Switzerland was very helpful. Among other highlights, the SG created several Virtual Working Groups (VWGs):

VWG on GAAMAC III - mandated to start preparing GAAMAC III and suggest proposals to the SG. Upon proposal of this VWG, GAAMAC III will take place in the African continent.

VWG on Membership/Partnership - mandated to suggest proposals regarding membership, partnership and decision-making procedures to the SG.

WG for Virtual Platforms - mandated to develop the website that shall provide an online knowledge platform, a repository of important documents, guidance material, training and other resources relevant to the field of atrocity prevention. The virtual platform already serves as virtual working space for GAAMAC members and partners, online meetings, discussions and exchanges as well as preparation of joint documents.

The SG members have been engaging in these working groups that are already producing results.

In December 2016, the SG held its second meeting, this time in a virtual way, during which the VWGs presented their results and made recommendation to the SG; the SG was updated about the African Working Group's progress; and discussions were held on the roles of the Support Office and about the location of the forthcoming GAAMAC III.
