GAAMAC II Debriefing in NY

On 15 April 2016, the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations, together with Switzerland, will hold a debriefing session for interested Member States and NGOs on the outcomes of GAAMAC II. The session will take place on Friday, 15 April 2016 at 1:15pm in UN Headquarters, Conference Room 7. More information about the debriefing will be shared on the website.

"Regional Groups" of GAAMAC

During a plenary session at GAAMAC II on 3 February, the UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, H.E. Adama Dieng, invited all participants to brainstorm and formulate concrete proposals for moving forward together. Four regional groups were sponteneously constituted - the African group, the Asian group, the European and North American group, and the Latin American group.

Each group made concrete suggestions for next steps pertinent to their region. Among them, the African group committed to produce a guidance manual (and work through country consultative meetings, research and peer review workshops) to facilitate formulation of and strengthen the management of national architectures for atrocity prevention. Other regional groups also emphasized the importance of collaborative processes in their regional contexts.

The regional groups will be supported in their efforts through GAAMAC as an on-going platform of peer-to-peer exchange and collaboration. We are excited about this concrete development and look forward to the regional groups' reporting about their outcomes at the next GAAMAC III meeting. Meanwhile, please stay tuned for more news on their updates.
