Open Spaces Volunteers

Getting Back to Volunteering
Based on the Government's "roadmap" we can go back to volunteering again from Monday 29th March!

Hopefully this date will not change, but if it does we'll let you know.

We are all looking forward to getting back to those jobs we can see building up.

However, you and your volunteers need to feel safe - so only return to volunteering when you feel comfortable doing so.

You might want to start small with some litter picking with the regulars before you start inviting more people to join you.
We have updated the Covid-19 Safe Operating Policy and Risk Assessment used by the Friends of Cotteridge Park on our website.

You can adapt these templates to fit your site and they can be seen by clicking the links:
The risk assessment should be used before each volunteering session.  The policy can be used for the group to decide how they want to work.

If you have any questions contact BOSF or your Park Manager or Ranger
(this isn't instead of reading the risk assessment!)

1. Make sure everyone who comes to volunteer is well.
2. Makes sure hard surfaces are clean (eg door, gate and tool handles)
3. Where possible don't share tools.
4. Don't share gloves - ask everyone to bring their own.
5. People who don't live together must stay at least 2m apart

As we all know the rules keep changing.  BOSF will do our best to keep you informed of the changes we hear about.

Free Workshop "Getting Started with Safeguarding"

Birmingham Commuity Matters is runng an introduction to Safeguarding Policies.

As a voluntary or community organisation you are likely to need a safeguarding policy and procedure to look after vulnerable adults and young people you may come into contact with. But where to start?
Our small online group workshop on Tue 23 March from 11am to 12pm 'Getting started with safeguarding' will be an informal and easy way in to tackling this important step.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and will leave with a simple template for a safeguarding policy and procedure.
