ACIP Updates Vaccine Recommendations on HPV, HepB & MenB

Adolescents under age 15 years need only two doses of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine instead of three under a new recommendation from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) committee. See all changes along with explanations here

Gov. Edwards, Our Lady of the Lake Announce New ER in North Baton Rouge


Gov. John Bel Edwards held a news conference Wednesday (9/21/16) to officially announce the state's agreement with Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL) to open a new emergency room in north Baton Rouge. 

The ER will be added on to OLOL's existing LSU Health Urgent Care Clinic on Airline Highway and will be staffed by emergency physicians 24/7 with a full-service lab and will be an extension of the main OLOL campus on Essen Lane. The deal is part of the state's renegotiated contract with the OLOL system to provide charity care in Baton Rouge.  Read the article

Impact of Experiences on Chronic Disease and Mental Health in Children

Please join the Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Louisiana School-Based Health Alliance for a day discussing the impact that experiences have on children and how we can promote community awareness and support. Register here

Objectives:
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the elements and components of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study
  • Explain the immediate consequences that adverse childhood experiences have on the child at the time of the events, at various periods of growth, and on the child’s adulthood
  • Identify support strategies for the children and families at all stages
  • Demonstrate how to properly use of the ACE Questionnaire and how to record responses
  • Recognize and be able to explain how the characteristics of different groups impacts the interest and involvement of communities throughout the state of Louisiana
  • Discuss and be familiar with the way in which all data collection sites will be assigned numbers
  • Demonstrate the way in which each site will select the proper code for each student/patient ACE score to de-identify the information at the state level, and
  • Explain how each site/provider can seek assistance, if needed,  with coding student/patient information
Audience:
This educatioal event is appropriate for nurses, social workers, healthcare providers ano other allied health professionals.
