Newsletter - March 10, 2017

A congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, Founded 2013

Dear Friends,

Hard to believe that we are coming to the end of our sermon series on Ephesians. It has truly been a delight to dive in, study and apply the majestic truths of this pastoral epistle. I hope that you have benefited from this series as much as I have.

It is easy to forget when you are going through a book of the Bible that is as theological and practical as Ephesians, that it was (and still is) actually a letter. Ephesians is a letter, written by a pastor to his flock. In this case, the pastor is the Apostle Paul and the flock, the local church, is the church in Ephesus. With this is mind, the truths of this book come alive as we see they are not subjects to ponder on in graduate school - they are words of life!

The last portion of this letter is the final word that Paul has for his congregants. Paul's pastoral concern is one in which he wants the Ephesian Christians to understand that life is war. Spiritual warfare is real. It is not an abstract thing. Every day we are faced with real forces of evil: the world, the flesh and the devil. And these forces want nothing more than to drag us down and pull us away from God.

I think we've all experienced this to some degree and if we really think about it, we feel this spiritual pull on our lives everyday. We are prone to wander. We are prone to leave the God we love. We are prone to give in. And even worse, we are prone to give in to this pull away from God and not even realize it.

So this is why we need the armor of God. This is why we need the truth of the Gospel to inform us and to fortify us every day. This is why we need the living, breathing, soul-piercing Word of God to change us and remake us everyday. And this Sunday we will learn how all of this needs to be bathed in prayer. All-prayer

Warfare Prayer: Why do we need it and how will it help us in the Christian life. Join us this Sunday as we explore the importance of prayer in the Christian life.
