Welcome to your February 2015 Update!

From Tina & Tania...

Happy February and don't forget that Valentine's Day is right around the corner!

Market Stuff:  At the CREB (Calgary Real Estate Board) Forecast in mid January, CREB's Senior Economist Ann-Marie Lurie forecast that she is not expecting the housing market to crash, all things considered she's expecting a very modest price growth of 1.58% (2014 saw a price growth of 9.85%).  The forecast is redone mid year, so in June/July we'll take a look at what happened in the first 6 months, and the forecast for the following 6 months.
  • "The economic climate in 2015 will change substantially compared to 2014.  As a result, the resale housing market will demonstrate different traits.  Weaker economic conditions are expected to cause a pullback in sales, causing supply levels to rise from current low levels.  Yet prices are expected TO REMAIN RELATIVELY STABLE, increasing by 1.58% on an annual basis due to relatively low inventories going into this cycle."   Ann-Marie Lurie

Destination: Deerfoot City shopping centre plans unveiled

Mario Toneguzzi, Calgary Herald  2.02.2015
Deerfoot Mall in northeast Calgary is being redeveloped from a traditional enclosed mall into an expanded new outdoor shopping centre that its developer says will be “unique to suburban Calgary.”  Retail space will expand from the current 623,000 square feet to about 1.3 million square feet by the fall of 2017.  “This large site, in a mature and established location, affords a rare opportunity to provide a full spectrum of retail, restaurants and services all on one site in a very deliberate, planned manner,” said Darren Kwiatkowski, executive vice-president of Shape Properties.

Three Simple DIY Winter Projects For Your Home

Feature Walls - You’ve probably flipped through a home decorating magazine or watched a DIY TV show where all they’ve really done is painted a feature wall. Without a doubt, a feature wall can really add that extra special something to a room. The fantastic thing about feature walls is they are cheap, easy to do and you really don’t need to spend a month of Sundays doing them. What’s better – you can do it yourself!  (I've actually had a can of paint on my counter for like a month, so they SAY you can do it yourself...I'll get around to it eventually!!)

Turn Old into New - So your furniture looks like it should be on the set of The Brady Bunch? Green vinyl seat covers just not doing it for you? Don’t turf it out – consider turning old into new. You’d be amazed at how easy it is to re-upholster an old chair, and re-paint a dated table or get new.

Creative Photographs - Let's face it. There’s a stack of creative people out there on Pinterest. Your family photos don’t just need to be a few randomly placed and mismatched framed items on a wall. Go crazy with your family photos – match the frames, get a few in different sizes, do a family tree of photos on the wall – it’s creative DIY at its finest!
