About the Presenters

Michele Tobias is the GIS Data Curator for the UC Davis Library. She has a PhD in geography from UC Davis and has been working in the geospatial field for about 15 years. She has a particular interest in open source tools and finding solutions to processing and visualizing challenging data.

Walter Yu is a Senior Transportation Engineer with the Caltrans Environmental Engineering Division and serves as technical lead for various projects which use GIS, data analysis and machine learning to improve permit compliance and minimize environmental impacts. Walter has over 13 years of experience with Caltrans, earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley and is currently pursuing a M.A. in Software Engineering from the Harvard Extension School.

COO and Director North America at Open Spatial Corporation. Open Spatial provides geospatial engineering solutions for managing spatial data from survey through design, construction and data management. Our technologies are based on risk-averse, ubiquitous platforms that bridge the gap between CAD, GIS, BIM and asset management applications. Utilizing open standards and engineering best practices, we deliver fit-for-purpose solutions with a focus on productivity improvements, definable return on investment and long-term savings.

Dr. Aniruddha Ghosh specializes in remote sensing and is an Assistant Project Scientist in Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California, Davis. He has a Ph.D in Natural Resources Management from TERI University, India. His research focuses on the integration of different open-source geospatial techniques and modeling tools to explore and explain spatial patterns and processes at multiple scales for various agricultural and environmental applications.
