Building a pipeline and positive long-term relationships

The Willamette Water Supply Program is committed to increasing public understanding of the Program and its goals. In support of that commitment, we are working to gain the cooperation of property owners to complete wetland, geotechnical and other environmental studies along the proposed pipeline route. We are contacting owners by phone and visiting them, when possible, to introduce ourselves and to talk about the Water Supply Program and the needed technical studies.

This effort is off to a great start! Over the last few months we have reached out to hundreds of property owners along the proposed pipeline route. The resulting conversations are going very well and many property owners have granted permission for our technical staff to conduct their evaluations.

The Program staff will interact with many property owners over the life of the project—from design through construction. The goal of our committed hands-on approach is to build long-lasting, positive relationships. We plan to follow up with property owners to let them know when the survey crew will be at their property. In many cases we will also accompany surveyors to make sure everything goes well and our commitments are upheld.
Surveyors will be visiting sites with members of the Communications Team in June.

Program Update Highlights

Design –The Water Supply Program team has procured design consultants for two sections of the pipeline. Kennedy/Jenks was hired for the South Hillsboro Area Pipeline Project. They will focus on coordinating with ongoing road improvements in the south Hillsboro area and preparing
final designs. The design consultant for the Tualatin-Sherwood Area Pipeline Project will study routing options in greater detail and produce a final design for an alignment that utilizes the best route.

Community Outreach – The Communications team is developing project fact sheets and individual outreach plans for the communities along the proposed pipeline route. Our goal is to keep communities aware and informed of activities in their area and provide opportunities for feedback. Check out the Wilamette Water Supply Program map and schedule—it is updated regularly!

124th Avenue Partnership Project – Road construction has begun on this exciting Washington County / Willamette Water Supply Program project. Construction of the pipeline will begin this summer. This combination road/pipeline project will be completed in 2018.

Kinsman Road Partnership Project – Emery & Sons Construction Group was awarded this cost-saving opportunity project with the City of Wilsonville and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Construction is anticipated to begin this summer and conclude in 2017.
