We love the Willamette River!

As everyone knows, February is the month of love and appreciation. With that in mind, the Willamette Water Supply Program (WWSP) team wants to share why we love Willamette River water.
  1. The Willamette River is a safe and proven drinking water source! The cities of Springfield, Corvallis, Adair Village, Wilsonville and Sherwood receive safe, quality water from the Willamette. This section of the Willamette River has been tested extensively over the last decade, and results have found it to be a quality drinking water source.
  1. The Willamette will add to the reliability and capacity of the regional water supplies! Projections show TVWD’s population will increase by 82,000 by 2042 and the City of Hillsboro anticipates its water needs to double in the next 25-50 years.  Adding Willamette water to the portfolio of existing water sources not only guarantees enough water for the future but also provides redundancies in the existing water system in case of an emergency.
  1. It’s a cool river! It is Oregon’s river, wholly contained within our state borders. It not only ranks 19th in volume among U.S. rivers, it is also only one of 20 rivers that flow south to north in our nation.  What’s not to love?

Willamette River Water Treatment Plant Master Planning Process Begins
A master plan update for the expansion of the Willamette River Water Treatment Plant is underway. The MWH Global and Carollo engineering team has been hired and partnering agencies are signed on to participate in every step of creating the plan. The master plan will identify where the plant should expand as well as provide phasing options.
Early steps in the process include reviewing past plans, researching partner needs, and developing a public engagement plan for gathering feedback from impacted stakeholders.  A draft master plan will be complete next winter. The final plan will be complete by spring 2016.
