Happy Holidays from Mark and Kevin!
TVWD Chief Executive Officer Mark Knudson and Hillsboro Water Director Kevin Hanway thank individual property owners, water customers, participant communities, and Washington County for their contributions to 2016’s Willamette Water Supply Program achievements. Mark, Kevin, and everyone working on the Willamette Water Supply Program are looking forward to a successful and exciting 2017.
Building the Willamette Water Supply System safely
The Water Supply Program includes multiple construction projects spread across more than 30 miles of eastern and central Washington County. Over the next decade, hundreds of construction workers, inspectors, and construction managers will be tasked with safely building the pipeline and other water facilities. A strong safety culture is a foundational principle of Supply Program work.
“Our guiding principle is to perform our work in a manner that protects the health and safety of staff, consultants, construction contractors, and members of our communities,” said Mark Knudson, Chief Executive Officer of the Tualatin Valley Water District.
A Health and Safety Plan was adopted by the Water Supply Program’s partners early in the design process. This plan sets a high standard for safety in every aspect of the large construction effort, and applies to all staff, contractors, sub-contractors, and suppliers working on the Supply Program, as well as anyone visiting construction sites.
More About our Future Water Supply
TVWD and the City of Hillsboro are partnering to develop the mid-Willamette River at Wilsonville as an additional water supply source. Other water providers in the region are also looking at their options for future participation. There is enough water for today—but steps need to be taken now to have an adequate supply to meet future demands and provide greater reliability. Developing an additional water supply through a partnership supports the region’s plans for responsible growth within the urban growth boundary.
This water source will offer significant benefits: excellent finished water quality, redundancy, ownership and control of the supply, year-round reliability, and better value.
Developing the new Willamette Water Supply System is one of Oregon’s most important infrastructure projects. The system, when completed and put into operation, will supply water to more than 300,000 residents and some of the state’s largest employers for the next 100 years. The project includes a modified intake on the Willamette River, a water treatment plant, more than 30 miles of water lines built to modern seismic standards, and water storage tanks. When possible, the Water Supply Project will utilize existing public rights-of-way and partner with road projects to lessen construction impacts to the surrounding community.
