January News

While creation justice work has been underway in The United Methodist Church for many years, it was just three years ago in January 2020 that the UM Creation Justice Movement was officially launched to “connect and support groups within The United Methodist Church and beyond for the work of creation care, justice, and regeneration.”

Over this time, as many individuals have accepted their call to creation justice work and local churches and annual conferences have started or revived teams, the Creation Justice Movement has created virtual and in-person spaces and communication networks for those individuals and teams to connect with one another and with the resources of our boards and agencies. Work teams have offered opportunities for advocacy, organizing, education, and connection. Most importantly the Movement has created a place for us to ask and answer the question: What more might we do together?

In this January 2023 newsletter, we invited leaders from across the Movement to reflect on how we have answered that question this past year and what is on the horizon for the coming year. We hope you’ll find inspiration to explore your own answer to the pressing question: What more might you do to further the work of creation care, justice, and regeneration through and beyond The United Methodist Church in the coming year?

For companionship and support for the journey, we invite you to join one of the many work teams and the UMCJ Movement Café, which is launching on January 18, 2023. We look forward to hearing from you in 2023!

Tell the EPA to Protect Our Health
and Climate Now

President Biden and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just took a critical step towards cutting methane and other harmful pollutants from the oil and gas industry. However, more work must be done to ensure that we are confronting the climate crisis head-on and protecting the health and safety of communities across the country.

That's why you need to let the EPA know cutting methane is important to you—submit a public comment at the link below!

January Tips!

Sample Tip

“I have a dream… .” Martin Luther King cast his vision for all to see and aspire to. He also worked to bring it about. What is your dream for creation? for justice? How will you work to bring about a healthy, equitable, and inclusive future for all of God’s kin-dom? Read God’s vision: Isaiah 65:17-25.
