La Salle Prep Falcon Forum: December 11, 2022

La Salle Prep Falcon Forum

Mission Minute

As we enter the third week of Advent and celebrate Gaudete Sunday (rejoice!), we reflect on the many ways we see joy and anticipation in our lives and at La Salle.

This past week we celebrated The Feast of the Immaculate Conception with Mass in our gym. We welcomed our celebrants Father Matt Libra from St. Rose Parish and Father John Marshall from St. John the Baptist. This past week was also the final week of our Christmas Drive as students flooded our main entrance with wrapped gifts for local families in our community. Thank you to our community for engaging in this vital project. Finally, we witnessed joy in the little things: candy grams for friends, Elf on a Shelf contests, the early weeks of winter competition, and preparation for our holiday dodgeball tournament.

As we look to this last week before Christmas break, we anticipate much joy: a spirit week with dress-up days for students, hot chocolate and cider sales at lunch, a holiday concert on Wednesday, a screening of The Grinch on Thursday, and an early release (1:05 PM) on Friday.

During Mass, Father Libra reminded our students of their amazing potential to transform the world. In the joy of this season, we aspire to keep this true message of Christmas in our hearts and actions.

Live Jesus in Our Hearts,

Alanna O’Brien
Principal

OSU School of Engineering Visit, Dec. 15

Oregon State University’s College of Engineering (COE) is excited to announce the annual Winter High School Visits. The Ambassadors are a team of undergraduate students representing the college and connecting with prospective students to share their experiences at OSU. The engineering students will talk about life as an engineering student, research opportunities, extra-curricular involvement, and provide an overview of OSU's engineering programs.

The event will take place on Dec. 15 in La Salle's Library from 3:15 PM-4:15 PM. There will be a Q&A session following the Ambassador's presentations.

Students can RSVP via the Google form, using their lshigh.org email.

Questions? Contact Carie Coleman.

Internship Opportunities

OHSU has an internship program for Sophomore, Junior, and Senior high school students interested in pursuing careers in medicine or biomedical research through a 16-week course starting February 1 through May 17, 2023 from 6-8 PM. Students are introduced to the scientific process and gain access to research scientists from OHSU and other Portland research initiatives. Students will meet for two hours on Wednesdays for a lecture series and learn about ongoing research projects. A researcher will mentor each student. Each student gains first-hand knowledge of research methods, and, with their mentor's help, will present a published research article in a journal club format and develop their own research proposal.

You can find more information here. Applications for the 2023 program are open now and close on Friday, December 16.
