La Salle Prep Falcon Forum: January 22, 2023

La Salle Prep Falcon Forum

Mission Minute

Our pending final exams serve as a reminder that we are halfway through this school year. In looking back on the last semester, I am filled with gratitude for the abundance found in this year and the many ways students have grown, both academically and through co-curricular activities. As we look to second semester and all the opportunities before us, we pray for continued blessing and support for the young people entrusted to our care.

Next week we will be on a special schedule as students will take morning exams on Monday – Thursday (see the specific schedule below). While teachers are available to support students and answer questions throughout the week, we encourage students to reach out through Schoology to teachers to ensure their availability. Friday, January 27 and Monday, January 30 serve as grading and planning days for faculty with no school for students. Our building will remain open during usual hours and the library will be available to students from 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (Monday – Wednesday). No lunch service in the cafeteria next week.

Please reach out if you have questions!

Live Jesus in Our Hearts,

Alanna O'Brien

Community Events

Ticket Sales Ending Soon: Steak & Seafood

We are thrilled by the response and excitement from our community for the Booster Club’s Annual Steak and Seafood Dinner and Microbrew Tasting on Saturday, January 28! Although general ticket sales have closed, there are still a few ways for you to attend and support this year’s event.

Underwrite the event for $500 or $750. Underwriters receive event tickets and marketing exposure while also providing additional support to our Falcon athletes!

Reserved Tables for 10 includes complimentary drink tickets, wine at your table, and the ability to secure seating for you and your family and friends!

Volunteers Needed for Steak & Seafood

Please consider volunteering to help with Steak & Seafood! We are actively looking for set up help, ushers, raffle sales, and bussers. For a complete list and to register, click here or contact Jennifer Reeves for more information.

Join Our Career Fair!

Want to inspire current students? Join other parents and alumni on March 6 for Career Dayto help our Falcons explore potential educational/career paths. Let us know if you or your company/organization would like to be present during the career fair portion of our Career Day in the gym from 11:40 AM – 1:15 PM on Monday, March 6. The career fair consists of three 30-minute free-form sessions in the gym: students walk up to the table, ask questions, and make connections. It’s a neat opportunity for both the adults involved and our current Falcons. Career-related items to demonstrate, display, or share with students is a great way to engage.

Questions? Contact Michelle Crimmins.

To volunteer, please email Michelle Crimmins.

Gift Card Donations for Better Together

We invite parents to donate gift cards in increments of $5 and $10 to places such as Dutch Bros, Black Rock, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Bubble Tea, Chipotle, and Chick-fil-A for the Better Together student fundraiser.

Gift cards will be used as prizes and incentives for students who participate in Better Together. Donations can be submitted to the main office. Deadline for gift card donations is Friday, February 3.

Student Clubs & Activities

Saturday Academy's Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering Program: Applications Open Soon!

The Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering (ASE) program connects motivated high school students with mentors in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), pre-professional internships. The driving value behind the ASE program is that the interns should contribute to and learn from the mentor's work.
Internships are eight-week, full-time summer positions, designed by mentors themselves. These internships take place throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. Mentor organizations include universities, hospitals, research institutions, and private companies. The application process is competitive, with more than 400 applicants each year for approximately 110 positions. ASE internships attract rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from throughout the Northwest, and roughly 70% of interns are from backgrounds historically excluded from the sciences. ASE interns have been listed in published research, helped to design and test commercial products, and spent countless hours in the field and in the lab.

CASE Training

All volunteers are required to attend in-person training for Creating a Safe Environment, also known as CASE. CASE training is usually held in the evenings; dates are scheduled periodically during the school year.

(Please note: CASE has replaced Called to Protect so even if you have already taken Called to Protect, you will need to attend an in-person CASE session.)

Upcoming training dates for the 2022-23 school year:
Thursday, February 16 at 5:30 PM Room #507 in the Saalfeld Center.

Other CASE training locations

Email Jennifer Reeves to register or to notify us if you have attended training at a different location.
