Considerations for Continuous Corn

Farm Financial Planning 

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has a farm financial planning program that provides access to Farm Financial Management associates who are part-time Extension employees that can help anyone who wants to understand a complete picture of their farm financial situation. This service is confidential and offered at no charge. You can access more information at Farm Financial Planning Program.  Additional information is available in this publication which can be downloaded for free and shared as needed, 

Crop Performance Results 
The 2019 Crop Performance Tests for both corn and for soybean are now available.  These trials are conducted annually by the ISU Department of Agronomy and the Iowa Crop Improvement Association. The reports are available for download through the above links at no charge.

November-December.  ISU Extension and Outreach in partnership with USDA Farm Service Agency, are hosting over 50 meetings to address 2020 Farm Bill decisions.  Click on the link to find your local meeting or read this press release for additional information. 

December-March.  Here is a list of my private pesticide applicator meetings.  Please arrive prior to the start of the meeting to complete your forms.  Please bring your pesticide applicator number to the meeting.  As usual, if weather is questionable, please contact the County Extension Office (click on the county in this map) hosting the meeting to determine if plans have changed.

December 4 and 5.  Join us for the 31st Annual Integrated Crop Management Conference in Ames, Iowa.  There are 39 different topics, you can get up to 14 CCA credits, and you can also meet your Iowa commercial pesticide applicator recertification in categories 1A, 1B, 1C, 4 and 10 for calendar year 2019

Registration for the Ag Chemical Dealer meetings is currently open.  Meetings Dec. 17 in Coralville and Dec. 18 in Ames are opportunities for ag input providers to meet with extension specialists to review current research, discuss new products and learn of new recommendations. Meetings are approved for Certified Crop Adviser credits. In addition, the meetings offer Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicator recertification in categories 1A, 1B, 1C and 10 for calendar year 2019. Recertification is included in the meeting registration. Attendance at the entire meeting is required for recertification. Early registration is $70 if received by midnight, Dec. 10 (Coralville) or Dec 11. (Ames). Late or on-site registration is $85.



Drainage Water Quality Practices Design Workshop will be held on December 18 at the Webster County Extension office in Fort Dodge. This workshop covers the design of bioreactors, control structures for drainage water management, saturated buffers and wetlands, all practices that can mitigate negative environmental impacts of drainage water.
