Accessibility improvements at Toronto Community Housing

Toronto Community Housing’s Accessibility Program responds to requests from residents for accommodation due to disability. Under the program, Toronto Community Housing makes modifications to units and common areas, focused on buildings with elevators. Residents who request accommodation may be transferred to a vacant, modified unit or may have modifications made to their current unit in an accessible building. Toronto Community Housing also works with residents and site staff to improve accessibility to common spaces in buildings, focusing on front entrances, common areas and laundry rooms.

For more information and highlights on our accessibility improvements in 2013, see our website.

Close the Housing Gap Campaign hits Queen’s Park

Last month, Toronto Community Housing met with elected officials at Queen's Park as part of the Close the Housing Gap campaign. Toronto Community Housing will need to invest more than $2.6 billion over the next 10 years in capital repairs to our aging buildings. We need the provincial and federal governments to partner with us, like the City of Toronto has, and each invest $864 million so that we can provide clean, safe units to the 58,500 households that call Toronto Community Housing home. For details on the Queen’s Park visit and to see photos from the day, see our website.

Stakeholders and supporters are encouraged to support the Close the Housing Gap campaign. To find out how to get involved, see the Close the Housing Gap website.
