Toronto Community Housing expands Affordable Home Ownership Program and reports significant progress on capital plan repairs

Toronto Community Housing residents will be given the chance to buy a new home following approval of an expanded Affordable Home Ownership Program by the Board of Directors at its August 14th meeting . The Board also discussed Toronto Community Housing’s progress in making significant investments in repairs in the first full year of its 10-year capital plan.

Toronto Community Housing calls on federal government to invest in housing infrastructure

In its submission to the 2015 Federal pre-budget consultations, Toronto Community Housing is proposing that the Government of Canada provide approximately $100 million per year in infrastructure investment between 2015 and 2023, for a total of $864 million, to create tens of thousands of jobs, generate economic stimulus in the billions of dollars, proactively reduce incremental health care and justice costs, and help prevent 58,500 housing units from reaching a critical state of disrepair.

Brighter Nights program in Bay Mills
The Brighter Nights program is a partnership between Toronto Community Housing, Toronto Hydro, the City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program and the Toronto Police Service. Brighter Nights aims to brighten neighbourhoods and help make them safer by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs and encouraging residents to leave them on overnight.  

Alexandra Park wins Canadian Institute of Planners award

Toronto Community Housing's Revitalization of Alexandra Park was honoured with an Award for Planning Excellence from the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) in the category of Neighbourhood Building.

This award, presented at the CIP’s annual conference in Fredericton, is a recognition of the success of Toronto Community Housing’s approach to Revitalization.

Housing Connections Annual Report now available

Housing Connections' 2013 Annual Report is now available here. The report includes information about Housing Connections' performance, mission and the business of managing the centralized waiting list. In the report, you’ll also read about staff and their stories about what happens behind-the-scenes and on the front lines to help applicants understand their options, make informed choices, and chart their journey toward a housing solution that meets their needs. 
Our Rookie League partnership with the Jays Care Foundation has been an outstanding success this summer. Over 1,400 children and youth from 60 communities took part in the program. Check out the photos from closing day on our Facebook account.
