Hi Family & Friends!

Wow, its November already, and that means we’ve been serving in Papua New Guinea for 4 ½ months now!  We are continually encouraged through your letters, prayers, photos, and Facebook messages; the internet is an incredible tool to keep us connected with you all!  Thank you for lifting us, our family, this ministry, Bible translation, and Papua New Guinea up in petition to our Heavenly Father.  Our work here on the other side of the world is not possible without you!

We are now a month into school term 2.  Our home is packed with teens, their friends, and the never-ending energy they supply!  We now have 4 middle schoolers and 5 high schoolers living in our home (3 boys, 6 girls).  In late November we will welcome in another high school boy for a couple weeks while his parents are away from Ukarumpa (our community-town).

Kari is continuing her additional role as the high school librarian, as is Cassidy with teaching the 9th grade Cooking 1 course.  Cassidy has also decided to help with co-coaching the girls’ basketball B-team.  Several of the girls on the team have never played basketball, so this is a new and exciting experience for the girls and the coaches!  The sport seasons here last about 6 weeks, with a few games and one or two tournaments; depending which communities/schools have a team pulled together and can find transportation.

We have been blessed to get involved with a Bible study with about dozen other missionaries.  It has been incredible to study God’s Word with others who work in an array of fields like Bible translation, aviation, education, and staff care.  Cassidy has also stepped in to co-lead the 10th grade boys Bible study each week.  He is feeling honored to get to disciple these 9 young men.

This weekend at church was a special service to celebrate the translation work that has been accomplished in Papua New Guinea over the year.  It was incredibly moving to see nationals walk up the aisles holding their newly published scripture portions.  Some publications included a few books of the New Testament, some were the full New Testament, others an AudiBible recording.  25 languages celebrated scripture portions that were not published 10 months ago!  God is at work in Papua New Guinea. There are still well over 300 languages in Papua New Guinea that have zero scripture, but there are more now who can hear God’s Word in their own language than ever before!  Join us in shouting praise!  Click here to watch Wycliffe’s celebration of the translation work that has been accomplished all over the world this year.

The drought has not lifted and is anticipated to continue into March of next year.  We received the blessing of light rain a couple days last week, which amounted to about 2 inches of rain.  This helped to fill our rain-tanks for drinking water and give the kids a chance to play in the rain.  However, many villages are struggling with their water sources drying up and gardens being ruined.  Please join us in praying for more rain for Papua New Guinea and click here to read more about the impacts of El Niño.

The final item we want to share with you to consider is the need for missionaries to serve in finance.  At the moment our branch is severely understaffed in the finance department.  If you have experience in finance, or know someone, check out this video and please share our need.  We’d love to talk with you more about how your skills and gifts could be utilized here in PNG to support Bible translation!

We love you and look forward to hearing from you soon!

With love and gratitude,
Kari & Cassidy
