Newcomers Luncheon Club
It is suggested that we start a Luncheon Club to explore new places and interesting food in the Nelson/Richmond area.
Initially we would trial once a month and choose a Café that caters for both cabinet food and meals.
If you are interested please email to indicate
your preferred day.
Walking Group Coordinator Wanted
The Nelson Newcomers Network Walking Group has been very popular. So popular in fact that the group is getting too large to manage on one day.

We are looking for someone to lead another walking group. You would need to enjoy talking and welcoming new people, attend the walks on the day you decide and have a bit of knowledge of  the surrounding areas.

You could use the same walks set out by the Tuesday walking groups, so not much planning would be involved. Or if you preferred you could organise your own routes. The Tuesday Walking Group coordinators are also happy to swap days, so you could do any day of the week that suits (maybe best to avoid Wednesdays).

If you are keen to have a chat about it, please email and we can arrange a time to meet.
Cooking Demonstrations, and Multicultural Potluck Dinner coming soon
Cooking demonstrations
A great way to meet people is by doing something fun in small groups. Therefore the Nelson Multicultural Council in conjunction with the Nelson Newcomers Network, are organising small cooking demonstrations at the Nelson Library. It will be a fun way to learn how to make a new dish from another country while at the same time meeting others. Groups will be kept small, and it will cost only a small kohl (donation). We will keep you posted as to when they will start.

If you are keen to pass on your skills to teach a small group about one or two dishes from your country, please email

Multicultural Pot-luck Dinner - 7th August
In August the Nelson Multicultural Council in conjunction with the Nelson Newcomers Network will be hosting a Multicultural Potluck. Again, this event is a great way to meet others over delicious food from all around the world. More information to follow, but for now, add the 7th of August in your diaries
We are looking for activity organisers, it's easy!
The Nelson Newcomers Network relies on volunteers to organise activities and events to make the network successful.

We are looking for people to be a key contact for an activity or event. Here are some ideas, can you help organise any of the following?
  • Mountain bike ride
  • Op shop tour
  • DVD night
  • Pot luck dinner
  • Night out to the movies
  • Day walk one weekend
  • Photography field trip
  • Cooking demonstration
  • Family day out to e.g. Natureland
  • Dinner or Lunch somewhere new
  • Fishing trip
  • Craft day e.g. felting, card making ...
  • Cheese making
  • Game of tennis
Or any other idea you have. Choose something that you enjoy doing.

Just email me your idea, date, time and contact details, and I can help you promote it within the Nelson Newcomers Network.
