IGRAC launches its new GGMN Portal

IGRAC has launched its new Global Groundwater Monitoring Network (GGMN) Portal. This new GGMN portal gives insights on the availability of groundwater monitoring data across space and time. Groundwater level data and changes occurring in groundwater levels can be displayed on a regional scale.

IGRAC supports publication on Urban Groundwater

IGRAC has published a case study on 'Groundwater resource management in the St. Bonaventure Township, Lusaka', which was written by researchers of the University of Zambia and the Natural Resources Development College. The study was undertaken to assess impacts of septic tanks, if at all, on the quality of groundwater in the aquifer underlying the St. Bonaventure Township, which is a low-density, high-income settlement located about 10 km south-west of Lusaka.

Water crossing borders: 64% of the world’s countries share Transboundary Aquifers with their neighbours

In celebration of World Water Day 2016, IGRAC analysed how many countries share significant groundwater resources with their neighbouring countries. The analysis which is based on the 2015 edition of the Map of Transboundary Aquifers of the World shows that at least 145 countries share an aquifer with neighbouring countries.

GroFutures stakeholder workshop held in Tanzania

A workshop to kick off this study was held on March 31st 2016 in Iringa and involved local key stakeholders including governmental water agencies. IGRAC applied the "Serious Game on Groundwater Management” with the participants of the workshop on the welcome-session on March 30th. During this groundwater game session, the project team aimed to obtain more information on the use of groundwater in the region and to share knowledge and bring awareness about the use of the groundwater resources. After the workshop, a 2-day field visit was done.

IGRAC organises monitoring workshop for South-East Asia

On 15-16 March 2016, the workshop 'Groundwater Monitoring in Southeast Asia' was held in the Asia Hotel, in Bangkok Thailand. The workshop was organised under the framework of the Global Groundwater Monitoring Network (GGMN) programme. In total 45 groundwater specialists from six countries (Cambodia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) attended the workshop.

RAMOTSWA training workshop in Mahikeng, South Africa

On 2-4 February 2016, the first training workshop within the RAMOTSWA project was held at the Protea Hotel in Mahikeng, South Africa. This workshop was organised by the leading partner IWMI in collaboration with project donor USAID/RESILIM, project partners IGRAC, XRI, national governments of Botswana and South Africa as well as four universities from Botswana and South Africa.

Open access paper published on groundwater governance

The paper 'Global governance principles for the sustainable development of groundwater resources', written by IGRAC PhD Research Fellow Kirstin I. Conti and UNESCO-IHE Professor Joyeeta Gupta, has been published in the journal 'International Environmental Agreements: Politics, Law and Economics'. This paper is open access content and therefore freely available for the public.

IGRAC participated in Mar to Mark€t meeting

The meeting having the theme "Boosting Managed Aquifer Recharge in Europe" counted with the participation of 12 organisations involved in the Managed Aquifer Recharge thematic. The meeting took place in the first day of the EIP conference 2016, on February 9th. "Boosting Managed Aquifer Recharge in Europe" open side meeting aimed presenting the scientific and innovation achievements of EIP Water AG 128 MARtoMARket.
