PUBLIC COMMENT OPEN FOR NEIGHBORHOODS 2020
RECOMMENDATIONS

The Neighborhoods 2020 Framework Recommendations have been completed and are available for review and comment. The official public comment period closes on March 31st.

Please consider taking some time and reading this report. The decisions reached by the end of this process may significantly impact the future of this organization.

The Neighborhoods 2020 process was created by the City Council to look at how the City serves and supports neighborhood organizations both internally and externally via staffing, organizational/advisory board oversight and grant-funded programs. Each piece is important for equitable and high-quality services to be provided to residents.

URBAN FARMING - YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO HELP GROW LOCAL FOOD

Marcy-Holmes is ready to help you get access to the MOST local food – the vegetables and fruits you can grow right here in the neighborhood.  The Greening Committee is launching an Urban Farming pilot, matching land and mentors with people who need either one.

Are you interested in growing food in Marcy-Holmes, but need a place to garden? If so, please take this survey.

Do you have space you can share with someone who wants to grow food here, or are you a gardening lover who would be happy mentoring a new urban farmer?  If so, please take this survey.

Please respond by April 1. Thank you!

URBAN DESIGN & INFRASTRUCTURE MEETING

A new committee, led by MHNA board member Grant Simons, will be meeting for the first time on Wednesday, March 6th. Grant hopes that the meeting will be more of a walking tour through the neighborhood, but if the weather doesn't exactly comply it will be held indoors (alternative location TBD). If interested in this meeting, please contact the MHNA office for hour / location details.

This committee will discuss all things related to urban design and infrastructure. Topics under consideration will include, but are not limited to, street design, pedestrian safety, bicycle infrastructure, bus stops, lighting, benches and more. This committee will consider ideas, crafting them for board approval and consideration for Public Works.

More to come, but topics will include:

• What is Urban Design?
• What does Urban Design look like in Marcy-Holmes?
• What can we do with our infrastructure?

CARING FOR NATURE IN MARCY-HOLMES

You can help care for nature, right here in Marcy-Holmes.  Watering baby trees, tending our Sixth Avenue Greenway and community gardens, and caring for Father Hennepin Bluffs-Lower Gorge area are all projects of the Marcy-Holmes Greening Committee.  We are now planning Thursday and Saturday events, starting on April 20 Earth Day and concluding with a November 21 celebration.

Want to earn service hours for school or with your co-workers? Let the Marcy-Holmes Greening Committee know, and they will create an event for you.
