KEEP YOUR SIDEWALKS CLEAR!

Minneapolis has a robust network of sidewalks and trails, and it is important to have clear and accessible sidewalks in our city year-round. If sidewalks are not cleared in the winter, it can be a problem for residents and visitors to walk to everyday destinations. It is also especially challenging for people with disabilities and mobility challenges to get around when sidewalks aren’t clear of snow and ice.
  • Minneapolis Ordinance 445.20 requires that property owners clear sidewalks after the end of a snowfall.
  • Single family homes and duplexes must have their snow cleared within 24 hours after a snowfall has ended.
  • All other properties must have their snow cleared within four daytime hours (daytime hours are defined as 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

VOLUNTEERING FOR OUR PARKS

Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association stewardship shout-out! 122 volunteers, 1000 hours, over 500 native shrubs and wildflowers planted and hundreds of non-native invasive species removed at Father Hennepin Bluff Park. Volunteer impact you can see from the Stone Arch Bridge. Proof that #GoodThingsHappen when neighbors come together.

SUPPORT THE WORK OF MHNA

In 2019, Your Support Helped Us:

• Nearly complete restoration of the public art in Elwell Park;  adding an info kiosk that tells the history of the park (100% complete in April 2020).

• Complete new neighborhood clean-up projects, including 10 new litter containers in Dinkytown, and an Adopt-a-Street program along University Avenue SE and 4th Street SE.

• Provide incentives to activate our block clubs and improve security throughout the neighborhood.

• Create a public art plan to complement the new 5th Street SE pedestrian / bike bridge over 35W.

• Develop a mini-grant program to fund neighborhood-driven creative placemaking ideas.

• Become more inclusive by radically opening up our Membership to businesses, property owners and students beyond  our neighborhood borders.

Coming to
Marcy-Holmes in 2020!

• Continued effort to advocate for affordable and appropriate development.

• A robust 2020 Census outreach campaign ensuring fair political representation and distribution of resources.

• A new Safety Committee, to focus on neighborhood / community safety through infrastructure and policy improvements.

• Continue implementation of the 2019 plan to ensure upcoming trail and lighting modifications at Father Hennepin Park.

• A strategy on how to spend over $1 million in enhancements to our neighborhood parks.
