Multiple Dates

Areas of Marcy-Holmes can be poorly-lit at night. Consider a $250 grant to add exterior lighting to your property that can make people feel safer when walking or biking through: https://www.marcy-holmes.org/light

MHNA will continue to explore other lighting improvements in the neighborhood.

Take a Look

The Creative Placemaking Committee of Marcy Holmes Neighborhood Association is thrilled to announce a second year of funding for our Micro-Granting Program. Our goal is to encourage lots of small, active, and visible creative projects throughout our community in the summer and fall of 2020.

This is your chance to be creative and spark some much needed joy throughout our Marcy-Holmes neighborhood. We hope that you consider applying for this funding opportunity or sharing this information with your creative network.

Thanks for your commitment to the health of our community!

Urban Agriculture:

This community volunteer-run program helps connect our neighbors with each other for more people to have the chance to grow food close to home and live here in a more sustainable way. PLEASE RESPOND BY JUNE 6 by today by filling out this survey if you’re interested in hosting a garden plot, or this survey is you are interested in gardening a plot. A volunteer will follow up with you.

NEW Census outreach - Neighbors Calling Neighbors!

Do you have a phone and computer at home, and 3 hours to spare?

The MHNA Complete Count Committee (CCC) needs YOU to volunteer from home with our upcoming virtual Census phone bank in partnership with the State Census office.

Track this progress in Census tracts 1037, 38.01, 38.02:

2020census.gov/en/response-rates.html

The latest response rates show a near 30 percentage-point lag between the hard-to-count east side of our Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, as compared to the west side. BUT WE CAN ACT TO PREVENT A UNDERCOUNT IN MARCY-HOLMES.

All you need is a phone and computer to volunteer from home. You can sign up for one or more 3-hour volunteer sessions, with training from our State partners included: click HERE to sign up to volunteer or contact jessica@marcy-holmes.edu.

MARCY-HOLMES PILOTS ORGANICS RECYCLING SHARED DROP-OFF SITE PROJECT

Do you live on the East side of Marcy-Holmes and don't have access to organics recycling?

Click HERE to sign up to use the ULCH shared organics recycling drop-off site. Participants will receive resource info and detailed instructions to access and prevent contamination of the shared organics recycling bin. Check out our new organics page for more information or to get involved in collaborative efforts to expand organics recycling in the neighborhood.

COVID-19 TASK FORCE MEETING

This new group is convening to consider the best ways MHNA can continue to innovate engagement and participate in the supportive response to the neighborhood. Check out the new COVID-19 Response task force page for updates. Ways to get involved:

  • As a first step, the task force is developing a campaign to help connect Marcy-Holmes’ needs and resources. Click HERE to sign up to join the new MHNA COVID-19 task force and to share what you know about both resources available to the neighborhood and opportunities to contribute for those who want to get involved.

  • Next meeting - Tuesday, June 9, 7 pm:  Please join us and share your ideas to help develop next action step proposals. Questions? Contact co-chairs James Farnsworth at farns028@umn.edu or Nick Tangen at nickt@ulch.org

PRESIDENTS BIKE BOULEVARD PROJECT

Construction began earlier this week and is estimated to take 8 weeks. For the project duration, East Hennepin Ave will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

In effort to connect a long existing bicycle network gap and create an enhanced pedestrian environment along E Hennepin Ave, Public Works is installing an off-street bike path and redesigning the crossing at 5th Ave SE and Peirce Ave NE.

Hennepin County will be resurfacing E Hennepin Ave from 8th St SE to I-35, which will reduce the number of travel lanes from 4 to 3 and add buffered bicycle facilities. Street resurfacing will occur after the Presidents Bike Blvd project is completed.
