#Yoga4Dignity class at Scout Hall, Booval, September 2017.

This Australia wide yoga class on September 2nd, initiated and organized by Share the Diginity was very well received and successful.
An email of Gratitude I received last week:

"We have been overwhelmed with the feedback, the photos and the kindness and generosity shown by everyone who participated in Yoga 4 Dignity. Your kind donation of a class has enabled us to run this event which simply wouldn't have happened without your help.
This kindness has enabled the purchase of 10 more #Pinkbox Dignity Vending Machines which will help women and girls access sanitary items at a time they need it most.

We have taken all your feedback on board and next year we will be holding our Yoga4Dignity Day on Saturday 1st September 2018, with the class being held at a time to suit you"

I intend to be part of this event next year again, and offer my time to teach a yoga class.

The Fish - Matsyasana

As the counterposition to the Shoulderstand, Matsyasana gives a nice backward stretch to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of the spine and expands the chest fully.
It is called the Fish because this yoga pose fills the lungs with air, improving the ability to float in water.

Practicing the Fish
  • Lie down on your back with your legs straight and your feet together. Place your hands, palms down, underneath your thighs.
  • Your hands should rest palms down, side by side and your elbows should be as close together as possible under your back.
  • Pressing down on your elbows, inhale and arch your back, resting the very top of your head on the mat. Exhale.
  • Breathe deeply while in the positions, keeping legs and lower torso relaxed.
  • To come ouf of the fish, inhale lift your head and place it gently back down while exhaling.
  • Then release the arms to the side of your body.
Benefits of the Fish
  • Removes stiffness in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions, increasing nerve impulses and blood circulation in these areas.
  • Gives a natural massage to the shoulders and the neck.
  • Corrects rounded shoulders.
  • Increases the capacity of the lungs.
  • Relieves spasms in the bronchial tubes.
  • Helps to relieve asthma and other respiratory problems.
  • Energizes the parathyroid glands.
  • Stimulates and tones the pituitary gland and the pineal gland.
  • Regulates moods and emotions.
  • Relieves stress and mental agitation.
