Workers' and employers’ representatives in the XLIX OAS General Assembly 
On June 26th, representatives from workers’ and employers’ organizations participated in a dialogue with the Member States and the Secretary General within the 49th OAS General Assembly in Medellin, Colombia. During their intervention, workers asked governments to promote a dynamic and non-hegemonic multilateralism and to establish policies for the protection of trade union representatives and migrant workers. On their part, the private sector highlighted the need to implement policies for gender equality, promote sustainable growth with environmental protection, and facilitate youth inclusion in the world of work.

X Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education began today   

The implementation of the Inter-American Education Agenda will be discussed in the 10th Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education, which began today in Washington, D.C. One of the agenda’s priority topics is to strengthen inter-sectoral collaboration between education and labor to generate competitive economies and decent work, which  has been addressed through several OAS joint initiatives. It is expected that, as a result from the Ministerial, Member States will adopt the Plan of Action of Antigua and Barbuda.

New Minister of Labor of Panama takes office 

With the innaguration of President Laurentino Cortizo on July 1st, Mrs. Doris Zapata Acevedo took office as Minister of Labor and Workforce Development of Panama. The Minister, who served as Vice-Minister of Labor from 2004 to 2009, stated that during her administration she will seek to promote policies to strengthen women and youth entrepreneurship, always within tripartism.
