A bi-weekly look at Labor Administration in the Americas

Barbados to host OAS labor meetings from September 17 to 19

The event, which will include the 2014 meetings of the Working Groups of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) and a RIAL Workshop on Social Dialogue for Formalization, will take place in Bridgetown. Details are available on the OAS website and RIAL Facebook page, and you can discuss the event on Twitter with the hashtag #WG_IACML. We hope to see you there!
 

Dr. Fredy Otarola takes office as new Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion of Peru

Dr. Otarola was sworn in during a ceremony with his predecessor Ana Jara Velasquez, who is now the President of the Council of Ministers. Read more >>

RIAL Cooperation between Guatemala and Mexico on Labor Inspection 

A delegation from the Ministry of Labor of Guatemala, headed by its Director General of Inspection, will visit the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare of Mexico this week with the aim of learning about its procedures for the control and supervision of labor inspection. Read more >>

Presidents of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador discuss child migrants at OAS

The three heads of state spoke at a meeting of the Permanent Council called to address the current crisis of unaccompanied child migrants. The Permanent Council later adopted a Declaration requesting that receiving countries fully respect the human rights of children and adolescent migrants. BRICS Trade Union Forum adopts declaration on sovereignty and integration for sustainable development 

Labor leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa met in parallel with their heads of state at the annual BRICS summit and adopted a declaration to promote decent work, social protection and the inclusion of trade unions in the new development bank being planned by the bloc. OAS offers scholarships for graduate studies in Brazil; RIAL members encouraged to participate
