Welcome new Secretary General of the OAS Luis Almagro 

On May 26th, the former chancellor of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, became the new Secretary General of the OAS. In his speech, titled “Toward an OAS for the Twenty-First Century”, the Secretary emphasized that the leitmotif of his administration will be “More Rights for More People in the Americas” and said that “the Hemisphere has had its fill of exclusion, has grown weary of racism, of persecution, of prejudice, of sterile conflicts. The Hemisphere should be characterized by peace and live in democracy”.

104th International Labour Conference initiates in Geneva

The annual conference of the ILO is taking place from June 1st to the 13th and will touch on subjects such as the future of employment and the informal economy, among others.

The OAS Inter-American Children’s Institute published a new report regarding national plans of action against the commercial sexual exploitation of girls, boys and adolescents in America.

Ministers of Labor from Brazil and Canada signed a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation

The memorandum was signed by the heads of the labor ministries, Manoel Dias from Brazil and Kellie Leitch from Canada, to promote cooperation in terms of conciliation, monitoring and social dialogue.
