The Preparatory Meeting for the XXI IACML concludes successfully

From July 28th to 30th, the Preparatory Meeting of the XXI Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) was successfully held with the participation of 26 OAS Member States, delegation of observer countries, the consultative bodies of the Conference, COSATE and CEATAL, , and international institutions. The main result was the negotiation and consensus-building on the Draft Declaration and the Plan of Action of Buenos Aires, documents that establish clear positions and commitments on the role of the Ministries in recovering from the crisis and facing the challenges of the future of work; the strengthening of institutionalized social dialogue; and intersectoral coordination, among other; as well as actions to put those commitments into practice. 

The Declaration and Plan of Action will be adopted by the Ministers of Labor at the Ministerial meeting to be held virtually from September 22 to 24 under the theme “Building a more resilient world of work with sustainable development, decent work, productive employment, and social inclusion". In addition to the negotiation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action, the Ministries had the opportunity to express their interest in being part of the Conference authorities, as well as to review the working agenda of the ministerial meeting.


COSATE and CEATAL participate in a colloquium on the Inter-American Business Charter

The Presidents of the consultative bodies of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) of the OAS participated in the colloquium "Business contributions to integral and sustainable development in the Americas" on July 28, which was held in the framework of the process to draft the Inter-American Business Charter. The President of the Trade Union Technical Advisory Council (COSATE), Marta Pujadas, and the President of the Business Technical Advisory Committee on Labor Matters (CEATAL), Daniel Funes de Rioja, shared the vision of the workers' and employers' organizations of the Americas in relation to the role of enterprises as catalysts for development and in building resilience in the Americas.

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons: Cartoonists from all over the world raise awareness about forced labor

In the framework of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, cartoonists from around the world expressed their vision to raise awareness and sensitize about forced labor and modern slavery, as part of the contest “What if your pencil was a tool against forced labor?”, Organized by the ILO in collaboration with Human Resources without Borders (RHSF).

With new Government of Peru, Minister of Labor takes office

On July 31, Mr. Iber Antenor Maraví Olarte took office as Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion of Peru, forming part of the new government headed by President Pedro Castillo. Mr. Maraví has a long history in teaching and the arts, as well as extensive experience as a union leader, particularly in the education sector.
