Southwest Drought Briefing

The most recent United States Drought Monitor indicates that all of the Southwest is experiencing some level of drought, and forecasts indicate these conditions are expected to continue through summer. This short drought briefing will provide an update of current drought conditions and forecasts for Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada, and then provide information about CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow) rainfall data. 

Climate Change Teacher Workshops

Middle and high school educators throughout the southwest are invited to join the Asombro Institute for Science Education for our upcoming virtual climate change teacher workshops. You will practice activities that engage students in experiments, games, and more, based on current USDA Southwest Climate Hub research. Each workshop is focused on a different climate change theme; attend one or all. All workshops are free, and you will learn how to teach fun, ready-to-use activities that your students will love!

New Mexico Healthy Soil Program Grant Applications

Deadline: July 2, 2021, 5:00 pm MT

The New Mexico Department of Agriculture is accepting Healthy Soil Program grant applications until July 2, 2021. Grant funding may be used for agricultural projects in New Mexico that focus on one or more of five basic soil health principles: keeping the soil covered; minimizing soil disturbance on cropland; maximizing biodiversity; maintaining a living root; and integrating animals into land management.
