Journey in the Sun
Launch in 10 - 9 - 8...

One week. That's how much time we have left before we launch into our newest adventure. Most of you already know that we're ready to start a new journey that will eventually find us in Caracas, Venezuela (pictured above). We are excited about joining the team already working there to establish home churches. We specifically believe God has led us to share the hope and love of Jesus to this city.

The first step on our journey is language training in Costa Rica. We depart August 23 and will spend a year there studying, with the goal of landing in Venezuela in the fall of 2015.

Transition  Please be in prayer for us as we say good-bye and make the adjustment to our new life in Costa Rica. In particular, pray for our kids - life is really chaotic for them. Avery (our second) is nervous about flying. He and Darrian (the oldest) are sad about leaving friends - as are we! Tanner and Cayden are unsettled about life in general. And we are all a little uncertain about what life in Costa Rica will look like. Praise God that we have a house (dining area pictured above) and people to help us transition.

Getting Ready  Our biggest task right now is selling, sorting and packing our stuff. This weekend is our garage sale, and then cleaning the house from top to bottom. No end of good times! But all part of the process. Please pray that the sale and packing would go well. It's tough to condense your life into 12 suitcases and 12 carry-on bags.
How our finances work
Because many of you do not specifically work with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (the C&MA), we wanted to explain how our finances work. The Alliance has one central fund (the Global Advance Fund) that pays the living expenses of most full-time International Workers. International Workers like us are given an allowance based on the cost of living in their country. All money donated to the Global Advance is pooled, but you can indicate "in support of Chris and Terra-Lynn Ulriksen" when you donate to this fund. We would then be given a list of who has donated to this fund with us in mind. :D  This system is a huge blessing for us, as we don't have to spend all our time trying to raise money, but can focus on training for our work and preparing to go.

Each Alliance worker also has separate categories that individuals can donate to. Donations to these funds go to specific needs. For us, those funds are:
  1. Outfit - $6000/year (maximum) to purchase items we can't take with us.  We will have a fully furnished house in Costa Rica, but will need to purchase our own furnishings once we reach Venezuela.
  2. Work Special - covers our ministry expenses (travel, supplies, etc.)
  3. Vehicle - $25,000 for the purchase of a vehicle once we reach Venezuela.
At present, our greatest need is for our outfit fund and our vehicle fund. If you would like to support any of our funds, donations can be given through a local Alliance Church, or online at cmacan.org/give. Be sure to indicate which fund you wish to give to (Global Advance, outfit, work special or vehicle), and our name so that it goes to the correct account. Donations to all funds are tax-receiptable.

Thank you to the many of you who support the Global Advance Fund, and who have supported us financially in any way. We deeply appreciate it!

Thank you for all your love, prayer and support as we get ready to take off on a crazy new journey!
