Consortium to Design New Lightweight Battery Casings for Electric Cars

A consortium of companies and institutions in the U.K. launched a major new multi-million-pound project to help design new lightweight battery casings for the next generation of electric cars and ultra low emissions vehicles (ULEVs). The members of the consortium include Constellium, Impression Technologies Ltd, Innoval Technology, Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST), Grainger & Worrall, and WMG University of Warwick, as well as automakers BMW and Volvo.

Hot Rolling Mill Commissioned in Greece

ElvalHalcor S.A. commissioned its new four-stand tandem hot rolling mill in Oinofyta, Greece. The completion of the hot mill is the first phase of the company’s five-year plan to more than double its flat rolled aluminum products capacity.
Construction Started on Battery Recycling Plant in Norway

Hydrovolt, the joint venture between Hydro and Northvolt, started construction of its new car battery recycling facility in Fredrikstad, Norway. The plant will separate aluminum from other valuable materials for recycling and reuse. 
3D-Printed Casing Produced for a Satellite

UC Rusal produced an 3D-printed aluminum casing, which has been successfully implemented in a Yarilo satellite launched into space in 2020. The satellite’s mission is to explore and monitor the sun and weather variations in space.
