Member Forum Recap

The LGBT Community Fund held its annual Member Forum on October 6th, 2015.  The main item on the agenda was the approval of this year’s grants. The following grants were approved:  $30,000 for ElderSource, $40,000 for JASMYN, $20,000 for PFLAG, and $18,000 for UNF LGBT Resource Center.  In addition, Ben Francisco Maulbeck, the President of Funders for LGBTQ Issues, spoke about LGBT philanthropy nationally. He expressed that the LGBT movement has achieved so much with little resources.  Southern states in particular are way underfunded; each year, the 14 states that make up the southern region receive 3% of the LGBT philanthropic funding.  He highlighted the efforts of the LGBT Community Fund as a great model for other Funds to emulate.  Ben Francisco Maulbeck’s main message is to spark up conversation in the community to support LGBT Funds.  Let’s support gay non-profits who have amazing leaders who are doing amazing work on local issues.
