MPI has invited Natural Health Products NZ to provide comments on the most recent WTO notification from FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority India).
FSSAI intends to require mandatory registration for foreign food manufacturing facilities who manufacture certain products and intend to export those products to India. The affected food product categories are:
• milk and milk products
• meat and meat products including poultry, fish and their products
• egg powder
• infant food
• nutraceuticals
As part of this mandatory registration, FSSAI will require MPI to provide a collated list of all foreign manufacturing facilities exporting or intending to export the affected product categories to India with a deadline of 1st February 2022.
The FSSAI definition of nutraceuticals can potentially encompass a number of products sold as dietary supplements in New Zealand. Therefore NHPNZ members who are manufacturers of supplements that may be exported to India are invited to provide comments about this FSSAI Orderto NHPNZ by 2nd December 2022.
NHPNZ will formulate a response if one is deemed necessary to MPI on behalf of members by MPI's deadline of 5th December 2022. Members may also choose to respond directly to MPI.
MPI has indicated that based on previous discussion with FSSAI it is highly unlikely that there will be any change to the mandatory registration requirement or the stated February deadline.
