A Heart to Reach the World for Christ

by Tyler Long, Washington Conference evangelism coordinator

During the First Century, there were an estimated 60-80 million people living in the Roman Empire. In the upper room, you had 120 believers that had a heart to reach their world for Christ.

To some, this may have seemed like overwhelming odds, but within the first 40 years, the early church had shared the gospel with 40 million people. How did the early church accomplish this amazing task? The Apostles relied on the Holy Spirit, not programs (Acts 4:31-33).

When Christ changes your life, you can’t help but share your story. Every time I drive through Seattle or Bellevue and I see the large buildings and the crowded freeways, I pray and I ask God how on earth our conference can make a difference in the Pacific Northwest. I am reminded that each of us needs to have a passion for the lost and pray that we too would receive the Holy Spirit the same way the early church did.

Accompanied by the Holy Spirit, there are many ways to reach someone for Christ. What idea for evangelism is God placing on your heart? Let's explore (with the Holy Spirit's aid) new ways and ideas to share the gospel with our friends and neighbors right here in western Washington. There is always more room in God's evangelism toolbox!

Our Growing Family

In 2017, 604 individuals chose to be baptized, follow Jesus, and join our Adventist church family here in western Washington. We are praising the Lord for these wonderful decisions. Church growth is alive in Washington Conference! The family of God is growing!

In 2018, Washington Conference is encouraging churches to sign up for BibleStudyOffer.com, a website that provides two options of free Bible studies for your geo-targeted location. Ask your pastor about participating in this Bible study opportunity!

Starting the Year with Jesus

We've already had at least two baptisms in 2018! The first Sabbath of 2018 was a natural time for two new family members to join the family of God!

Crystal Darley grew up in the Adventist Church and came back after some life detours. She studied with Marilyn Fletcher at Volunteer Park Church in Seattle and with each lesson was reminded afresh of the irrevocable love of God, and the bright hope of His soon return.

Kallan Richards is a senior at Skagit Adventist Academy. She wanted to start the new year right with her commitment to God and was baptized at North Cascade Adventist Church in Burlington.

Welcome to the Family of God!

Praying for Dr. Ken Lauren

Dr Ken Lauren from Kirkland Church fell from a ladder and sustained injuries while on a Costa Rica mission trip this week. He fractured the right side of his skull and another part over his right eye. He was initially unconscious for four hours.

His daughter, Jenny Lauren Bollinger, is providing updates on her personal Facebook profile. Here is a summary of those updates:

Dr Lauren is stable and underwent emergent surgery to address an epidural hematoma. His vitals look good, Jenny reports, and he will be kept in a coma so his head can rest. This will be a long road of recovery to address primary injury (from the fall) and secondary injuries (from the swelling of his brain).

Jenny says on behalf of her family: "Thank you for all the outpouring of support! I plan to get packed and leave early in the morning. Benji had just enough Alaska air miles for me to get there. Mom is grateful for ALL your amazing love and prayers, and so are we! Thank you for lifting us up!"

90 Days to Wholeness

When we initially planned 90 Days to Wholeness, we envisioned participants carefully picking one key area of growth. Based on the responses so far, we have a group of overachievers who are seeking growth in two, three, or four key areas! This is a good thing!

Start your own 90-day journey. We have a whole list of growth suggestions to get you started! Pick one area or multiple areas of growth! May you find wholeness as you surrender your all to Jesus in response to His gift of all for you.

The First Offering

The first ever offering for Washington Youth will be January 13 with a focus on Adventist Education.

Thank you for generously supporting Washington Conference’s desire to place our children and youth front and center in our allocation of time and resources. We want to joyously follow the wisdom of Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV): “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Give offline with your tithe & offering envelope, or online at washingtonconference.org/give or your local church website.

Thank you for helping instill Hope & Wholeness in a new generation of Adventists!
