Living Architecture

by Colette Newer, Washington Conference outreach ministries associate director

There’s a Girl Scout troop that meets at my church on Wednesday evenings. They’ve met there for a number of years and their familiarity has led them to refer to it as “The Church.” For example, they announce to parents that they will meet at “The Church” before leaving on a campout.
I love that they consider our church building part of their lives and are comfortable enough with it to use a short-hand name! It also reminds me that we too often refer to the building that we meet as “The Church.” However, in 1 Peter 2:5, it says that “The Church” is really a collection of people. In fact, it describes us as stones -- living stones -- that make up the most incredible architecture in the world. A living building!
Continue reading in the Growing Leaders Blog to discover how, like 1 Peter 2:5, you can be a living stone in your community!

#WACampMeeting Camp Life

Camp Meeting is time for spiritual renewal, reconnecting, and fun! In order for everyone to have a good experience at #WACampMeeting, there is a list of rules and policies that need to be followed.

A couple reminders and updates:
  • Keep a fire extinguisher in your tent, RV, or trailer. The Auburn Fire Department recommends at least a 2-pound chemical type of fire extinguisher. You’ll see white barrels around campus. These are filled with water in case of emergency.
  • Pets are not allowed in the general campus area or ANY building. If you do bring your pet, any and all pets must be leashed, kept in personal areas and designated pet areas, and are subject to a $50 pet fee that is required at check-in. You will be given a hot pink ribbon for your pet.
  • Please register your service animal at the Security office, located in Spady Hall. If your pet is approved, you will be given a red ("do not touch") or yellow ("ask to touch") ribbon.

Volunteer Opportunities in Tacoma!

Tacoma Adventist Community Services (TACS) is a food bank that serves individuals with special dietary needs resulting from medical conditions. They serve an average of 200 families per week. An aging building is making it imperative for the TACS food bank operations to find a new location!

Volunteers are needed to help successfully shepherd this program to its new home.
  • Property/Building Committee to research and locate suitable locations that can house the food bank and other desired services as well as manage maintenance to keep the current building operable. Desired skills include knowledge of maintenance, engineering/architecture, property research, business planning and the commercial construction industry. Interested individuals should contact Dustin.
  • Fundraising Committee: The team will develop and implement a fundraising plan for the relocation of the food bank as well as a program to fund ongoing operations. Different individuals on the team will be involved in grant writing, event planning, flyer creation and calendar maintenance. They will need effective written and oral communication. For more information, email Leslie Badgley or by phone at 253.272.8289.
