Stumble Free

by Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

My family knows that I have a tendency to stumble and fall; I can be walking along on perfectly level ground and stumble over my own feet. This has been true of me since I was a teenager and has been the cause of mirth with my family at times, as I can have some fairly spectacular tumbles. Of course, there are also spiritual stumbles that we are all involved with at times as well.

So, when I came across this verse recently I discovered how to be stumble free.  “Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble,” 1 John 2:10.

Wow! Here is the way to live stumble free in our walk with God. To truly love our brothers and sisters; Yes, even those brothers and sisters that sometimes make it difficult to love from the human perspective.

The lawyer who wanted to know who his neighbor was heard the story of the good Samaritan. Jesus said that we are to love even those we may have been raised to dislike or even hate. The key to this is what even the lawyer knew. In Luke 10:27, He told Jesus that we are to love God with all our souls and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

So, this week, look for a new way to share God’s love with your brother or sister that is living right next to you. Smile on the street to those walking along in their own little world. Let’s work to be stumble free as we fully love God and fully love our brothers and sisters walking this life.
How may we pray for you?

#UrbanSDA Explores Biblical Justice

"Urban" goes beyond the geographic dichotomy between a city and rural area. It is a mindset or culture fueled by mass media, technology, commercialism, secularism, post modernism, sport, entertainment, employment, traffic, education, daily duties/stresses of life in the 21st century.

Click through the #UrbanSDA Facebook gallery of images and quotes from a weekend conversation about biblical justice in community!

"We have a responsibility to grow the people God brings to us," says Doug Bing, Washington Conference president. "We are called to disciple our children, grow leaders, lead people to Jesus, be involved in ministry, and grow spiritually"

Kirkland Students 'Stop That Drip!'

Nine students in grades five, six and eight from Kirkland (Wash.) Seventh-day Adventist School (KSDA) placed first in the annual regional robotics competition for First Lego League in February.

This year’s league competition focus was hydrodynamics. Teams were judged by performance in three categories: project focus, core values and robot design. The KSDA team created a website with a short video called "Stop That Drip!"

“The best part is seeing how the team has changed their water-use habits to help out the environment,” says Campanello. “Of course, this isn’t something they have to do but that they want to do because of what they learned in the process of their project.”

Pastors' Meeting Provides a Spiritual Health Check-Up

Pastor Randy Maxwell guided pastors through a prayer spiritual health check-up this week during our spring time Pastors' Meeting. He had a list of Bible verses and asked pastors to pick the verse that best described their current prayer life. This led to good small group interaction. Pastor Seth Pierce gave an academic overview of hermeneutics (tools for interpreting God's word). In between, Auburn Adventist Academy staff and students brought dessert to share with pastors!
