Take a Hike with Your Family

With the re-opening of State Parks and recreational facilities for hiking, running and fishing, Sunset Lake Camp is reopening for individual and immediate family hikes only on Saturday afternoons. Two unique, self-guided Sunset Adventures experiences are available:

The Hidden Life of Trees: Prayer Path Adventure – This short 1/3 of mile walking loop will feature seven prayer stations that will teach about the wonders of the forest and give families opportunities for learning, sharing and praying together.

The Tower Trail Treasure Hunt – On this mile-long trail are hidden at least a dozen objects that don’t belong. Check the items off your list as you hike and see how many other amazing discoveries you’ll make as you keep your eyes open in the natural world. This experience will be great for kids.

A few logistics:
  • Trails are open Saturday afternoons from noon to 7 pm (please depart by dusk)
  • First come, first served - limit of 25-30 cars/families on campus at one time
  • Hiking guides for both adventures will be available on the porch of the gym
  • Bring your own water as all buildings will be locked and outdoor faucets have not yet been de-winterized
  • No camp bathrooms will be open (Go before you go...)
  • Groups of multiple families are not allowed to hike together
  • Picnics, campfires, beach gatherings, are not permitted
  • Rangers are on duty in case of emergency
  • Sunset Lake is following state coronavirus guidelines for operating State Parks
  • Donations to Sunset Lake's ministry are always appreciated

Help for Parents of Teens & Young Adults

With extra time together at home, you likely need some parenting encouragement for interacting with your teen and young adult kids.

Pastor David Salazar would like to share with you a helpful book review of "Growing With: Every Parent’s Guide to Helping Teenagers and Young Adults Thrive in their Faith, Family, and Future" by Drs. Kara Powell and Steven Argue.

The book presents three components to describe Growing With parenting as a process that “isn’t about meeting your kid halfway… but more about being all-in” (44). These three words become verbs so that parents can make it the new active norm in their journey with their children: Withing, Faithing and Adulting.
