The Elite Seat

By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

$500,000 dollars is a lot of money! But that is how much is alleged to have been paid as a bribe to ensure a student’s acceptance into a highly ranked university. The parents of this student allegedly went so far as to have pictures of their daughter taken on a rowing machine so that she could be recruited for the rowing team even though she was not on any such team in high school. Others in the nationwide fraud paid for their children to be recruited as tennis players. This was all to get a coveted seat in the school of their choice. Now the parents are in trouble with the government, people have been fired from their positions and the mastermind of this scheme has already pled guilty to the charges against him.

As I read the news this past week, I was struck by the lengths people will go to acquire things for their children who could not acquire those same things on the merits of their own grades and achievements. The outrage that many felt because of people trying to cheat the system was real.

But, I also thought about the elite seat that God has promised to you and me...

A Growing Intergenerational Church Leadership

How do you grow the number of young adults in your church? This past weekend, a group of ministry leaders and pastors gathered at Sunset Lake Camp for the Growing Young Cohort Summit to learn and discover how to grow the number of young adults in their church and involve them in their church leadership! Watch Dustin Serns, Port Orchard Church pastor, share how God led the Port Orchard Church in the last 2.5 years to grow from 5 to 30+ young adults in church each Sabbath in a video created by Justin Khoe and Jasper Iturriaga.

Pushing for Completion of HOPE House

Brenda Smith, of Nailed It Construction, recently lead a tour of the renovations that have taken place at HOPE House. Although the February snow slowed the crew down a little, they're still on task and should be complete by the end of March!

Help us push this project to the finish line!
  • We are so thankful for the donations and volunteer work that have been generously donated to help bring the HOPE House project closer to its completion. We continue to pray for continued financial support. Consider becoming a Friend of HOPE with a monthly gift.
  • Donations of furnishings are still being accepted. We are looking fo bedding, cleaning supplies, mattresses and small appliances in new or like-new condition. Email Evelyn Tyman, the Furnishings Committee Chair, for the most current needs list.
Give to HOPE House!
