The Perfect Seat

By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Do you have a favorite seat that you like to sit in? Several months ago, I was attending a rather large meeting and I usually like to sit towards the middle or back of the room. However, I arrived a bit later than normal that day and when I entered the room, those seats were taken.

I quickly scanned the room to locate the next best option. Soon I spotted a great spot. It wasn’t that close to the front and had a clear view of the stage. I quickly made my way to the spot and wondered why was this spot still open. It seemed like a perfect seat.

I settled into the seat and started to read the material for the meeting. The meeting started and I realized that my seat was far from perfect. I had not realized that there was a beam that was clearly obstructing the view of the screen. I spent the rest of the meeting leaning to view the screen so that I could keep up with the presentations. It was not the perfect seat.

Today in my private time with God I read about the perfect seat in the entire world.

Continue reading to see how Doug connects his experience with "the perfect seat" to God's perfect seat!

Prison Ministry Volunteers Share Their Personal Testimonies

This past Tuesday, we had a group of special guests stop by all the way from Nashville, Tenn., for our weekly morning worship. Members of the "Don't Follow Me" ministry were on their way to the Northwest Prison Ministry Retreat in Gladstone, Ore., when Colette Newer, Outreach Ministries director, invited them to share their testimonies at Tuesday's worship.

"Don't Follow Me is an anti-drug, alcohol, crime prevention, and intervention organization. It is composed of men and women who have previously served time in the Tennessee Department of Correction, but who are now on parole or probation. The overarching purpose of this organization is to educate young people with regards to the detriments of alcohol, drugs, and criminal behavior. It is dualistic in its purpose in that it serves as a youth support group, and as a community support organization." (dontfollowme.org)

"A traumatic moment in someone's life can trigger a bad decision that leads them down the wrong path," shared one volunteer.

These powerful testimonies from four former offenders shared the different moments in their lives that caused them to go down the wrong path in life.

“We were made who we are because God said so!” says King. “There is a Queen in you."
