An Impossible Task Made Simple

by Tyler Long, Washington Conference evangelism coordinator

Just before Jesus ascended the clouds into heaven, He gave marching orders to believers to be witnesses to the ends of the world. Can you imagine how they felt?

With an estimated 60 – 80 million people living in the Roman Empire, this must have seemed like an impossible task for those 120 early followers. This is a ratio of 1:600,000. How would they accomplish this extraordinary task?

Could they mail out thousands of seminar brochures? Would they be able to post an event on social media and then hope and pray people from the community show up? Could they create a media ministry that would broadcast the good news of Jesus to all that were willing to listen? Not that these are bad ways to share the Good News, but somehow within the first 40 years of the early church, they were able to reach 40+ million people with the Gospel.

:: THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON

This is Teacher Appreciation Week!

We are so proud of our educators in western Washington and how each day they are teaching, praying, planning, leading, and guiding our young people into a closer relationship with Jesus. We pray regularly for our teachers, and invite you to join us in praying for our teachers, too!

Kirkland Stops that (National) Drip!

Nine students in grades five, six and eight from Kirkland (Wash.) Seventh-day Adventist School (KSDA) placed first in the annual regional robotics competition for First Lego League in February. And then they did it again with a second place overall finish at the Adventist Robotics national competition in Florida this week!

"Is This Thing On?" in Walla Walla

The conversation can be deep and meaningful. Or it can be simply funny.. Or just about anything in between. This is the beauty of a live chat between church leaders and young adults. The next installment of "Is This Thing On?" is coming to Walla Walla this weekend. From social media snapshots from Walla Walla's CommUnity this week, our Pacific Northwest scholars are priming their questions for a great conversation!

Subjects may include the Bible, church policy, finances, Adventist lifestyle, theology, relationships, and more. Learn more: http://bit.ly/ittoWWU

Watch the hilarious promotion clips (there are at least four! Check out Dan Jackson's karate chop!) on the North American Division's Facebook page plus connect for the live feed on Sabbath, May 12, at 4 pm.

Pick Your Camp Meeting Classes!

One of our favorite parts of planning camp meeting is arranging for discipleship workshops. Admittedly, some years are better than others. We are super excited about this year's line-up of class presenters!

For example:

Dick Tibbits is coming to share how you can "Forgive to Live" (he has a book on this topic, too). Karen Nicola is coming to guide our community through how to be skillful comforters and healthy grievers (after all, we sadly lost 211 Adventist family members in 2017). Milton Adams is coming for a three-part training on how to set up a Simple Home Church (we already have three in western Washington!). These are just three of many options!

Flip through the newly released digital program guide to see the full schedule, speaker roster, discipleship workshops, and kids' programs that will be offered this June 15-23 in Auburn!
