Reflections on Psalm 125 at Mowich Lake

by Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

David gives us great imagery of being surrounded in Psalm 125:2: “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.”

I like being surrounded by the mountains at Mowich and Eunice Lake. It is a peaceful contemplative place. I like even more being surrounded by God on all sides. That will give us peace in whatever storm we are facing.

Each day as we grow in our spiritual walk with God is would do us well to remember who is surrounding us.

Keep reading for more thoughts on being surrounded...

Become a Disaster Response Chaplain

Adventists have traditionally provided warehousing services when a disaster strikes. An emerging need, however, is for disaster response chaplains: individuals who are trained and willing to provide emotional and spiritual support.

Disaster agencies have specific standards, qualifications, and requirements for chaplains. Derrick Lea, associate director for Disaster Response for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America, took the steps to become a certified instructor with International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) so he could train disaster response chaplains.

We have greatly subsidized this training to make it accessible for anyone who is willing to become a certified emotional care provider. The registration fee is $60 and the training is offered over two days on a holiday weekend so you don't have to take time off from work.

Jan. 25 - Religious Liberty Offering

Advocates for Tolerance

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America advocates for religious tolerance and mutual respect toward other religious traditions through its magazine, Liberty, and its efforts in the public sphere. Liberty is sent free of charge to many lawmakers and public figures. Our church likewise advocates and defends the religious rights in employment disputes for our Seventh-day Adventist Church members.

Our generous offering for NAD: Religious Liberty this Sabbath will provide continued resources to expand this indispensable work in defending religious liberty across the North American Division.
