The Best Definition

By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Do you ever run across a word that's so odd that you can't stop thinking about what it means? A colleague gifted me with a ‘word of the day’ pad for my desk and one of the first words was ‘campanologist.’ What did that mean? I first thought that it could be a made-up word. But as I continued to mull over this word, I thought, do people really use this word?

I kept pondering, even guessing, what this word meant. I thought maybe it was a word describing someone who studies camping. Seems logical, right? At last, I looked at the definition printed right under the word. A campanologist is someone that practices or is skilled in the art of bell ringing. Who knew?! Better yet, who cares?! But this word got me starting to think of other definitions that we should care about.

How to Help California Fire Survivors

Many of you may be wondering what the best way is to help those displaced by the firestorm in northern California.

Here's what they need now:
  • Financial donations to disaster relief funds
  • Gift cards to major retailers (Target, Walmart, Safeway, Winco, etc.)
  • Gift cards for gas stations
  • Gift cards for restaurants.

To donate directly, here is a list of Adventist organizations helping fire survivors get back on their feet:
Chico SDA Church is no longer accepting physical donations, but are asking that you make a financial donation through a local organization or a disaster relief fund through the Northern California Conference or Chico Adventist Church.

Washington Conference Staff Totally Involved

Today Washington Conference staff headed out to a World Vision distribution warehouse for a morning service project! The warehouse, located in Fife, was full of donations that needed moving, organizing and packing.

Here's a look at what we did:
  • Organized incoming donations
  • Created over 150 teacher classroom kits to be sent out to schools
  • Organized donations in the teacher service center
  • And more!
"We want to model total involvement in ministry," says Doug Bing, Washington Conference president. "This is one way to make an impact in the community."
