A weekly update from Washington Conference encouraging you
to get "Out & About" in ministry

April 30, 2019

This Week's Promise to Share

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Living God's Love in the Philippines

This morning, Washington Conference staff were blessed to have Jay Coon, Auburn Adventist Academy (AAA) Vice Principal for Growth & Development, and six academy students share stories of personal impact from their spring break mission trip to the Philippines!

While overseas, the group of 32 students helped student missionaries serve the community of Pagudpud, Philippines by serving in mobile clinics, leading Vacation Bible School programs, helping in building projects, and much more!

As the students shared their personal stories, many felt the impact of culture shock in both surroundings and how religion is different in a country other than your own and the acceptance of the Filipino people.

"In the Philippines, Sabbath isn't just about Friday evening and Sabbath church," says Chelsea, AAA senior. "It's easy to get caught up in the routine where everything is familiar here. But for the people of Pagudpud, Sabbath is a whole day of worship!"

"I was personally impacted by the visitations we did in the community. We met a woman whose child was sick with fever but didn't have the money to buy medicine. So a group of students, me, and my dad, pulled money together and took her to a local market so she could buy medicine. She was able to buy medicine for her whole family!" tells Kennedy, AAA junior. "Because her family had been in poor health, this mother hadn't been able to attend church for a long time. But because her family was healthy again, she was able to go to church!"
