Living Between the Advents

by Craig Carr, Washington Conference VP for administration

Harry Winston, a famous diamond broker, had just purchased one of the most famous diamonds in the world. He expected it to be delivered at any moment, and a crowd had gathered around.

The people listened to stories of the diamond's past history, and kept watching for an armored car and police escort. Security was sure to be tight.

At the edge of the crowd, a man in a postman's uniform tried to make his way through the mass of people. But he was repeatedly shoved back. Finally, with more irritation than courtesy, they let the stubborn postman through.

Mr. Winston took the parcel, looked at the return address, and then.....well, you'll have to watch and listen to rest of the "Living Between the Advents" story!

(It's worth your time! The whole sermon is about 40 minutes and perfect for watching on Friday night or Sabbath afternoon.)

Commissioning Invitation

You are invited to attend the commissioning service for Jennifer Woody on Sabbath, December 16, at 4 pm at Auburn Adventist Academy Church. Woody is chaplain and 10/12 Bible teacher at Auburn Adventist Academy. She's had the privilege of baptizing many students and experiencing the joy of watching young people go into ministry themselves. It is an honor for us to commission Jennifer Woody this weekend and to affirm how God is leading in her life and ministry. Please join us!

Young Adult Ministry Listening Labs

The Washington Conference Young Adult department will kick off in January with two innovation lab events that will help to shape the future of next-generation ministry in western Washington.

Based on the design-thinking process, this fast-paced evening will feature honest listening, open dialogue, creative thinking and a lot of coloring outside the lines. Come prepared to be heard and be ready to dare, dream and design.

At this event senior church leaders are encouraged sit at the feet of their young adults to listen, learn and then innovate together new ministry ideas. The event will be held twice on consecutive Friday nights – on January 5 at Auburn Academy Church and on January 12 at the Bellevue SDA church. Both events run from 7-9 pm. A light dinner will be served and the event is free to all.

RSVP is encouraged, but not required. For more information or to RSVP, contact Elizabeth Yeagley at 253-681-6008.

Grant Writing: Take Your Fundraising to the Next Level

A special learning convention is schedule for President's Day weekend to accommodate busy working professionals who want to learn how to effectively write grants to support ministry causes.

This fundraising intensive, scheduled for late Sabbath afternoon to mid-day Tuesday, February 17-20, 2018, is designed for ministry directors, pastors, principals, board members, and other interested individuals.

To make the most of this opportunity, it's recommended to bring more than one person from each ministry. Representatives will want to bring a laptop which can access onsite wi-fi to search for appropriate grants. Any additional materials about the organization and/or project you wish to raise money for will also be helpful.

Register for the One project before December 31

The grand finale promises to be a unique and moving experience. No recordings will be made of this gathering, and since it will include an open session for everyone to share thoughts and experiences, we anticipate that it will be challenging and refreshing. We invite speakers and participants alike to proclaim “Oh, How I Love Jesus!”

Register at before December 31, 2017, for the best prices. Prices increase on January 1, 2018 and the gathering is likely to sell out.

  1. Where is the One project gathering taking place? We are returning to the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, and all our guests will be in the newly refurbished Palm Tower. You can reserve your room online at the One project website for the best rates.
  2. What is the theme for this final gathering? For the first day, all our presenters will be speaking on “"Oh, How I Love Jesus!” The second day is a surprise - come and experience it!
  3. Why can’t you tell us what the second day is about? It is only for those in the room on that day. There are some things that need to be said, and you will understand only after we have shared them.
  4. Why did is it on Sunday and Monday? For several years, we have always held our gatherings on Sunday and Monday; we tried one year to move it to Saturday/Sunday and had many requests to return it back to Sunday/Monday to honor the importance of the local Churches. We all value the local Church.
  5. How much does it cost? The best price requires registration before December 31, so register soon. The adult registration is now $220.
  6. Who are the presenters?  See the list of presenters here.
  7. Why is this the last gathering?

Growing a New Generation of Adventists

The Conference Ministries offering as we currently know it (for Education, Evangelism, and Sunset Lake) is changing beginning in January 2018. Local church representatives affirmed a decision in 2017 to transition this offering to become the new Washington Youth offering to specifically fund efforts to grow young Adventists.

The Washington Youth Offering will benefit the full spectrum of ministry to young people: children's ministry, Pathfinders/Adventurers, youth ministry, young adult ministry, Sunset Lake Camp, and Adventist Education.

Thank you for helping to instill Hope & Wholeness in the next generation!
