The Best Education

By Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Do you remember sending your kids off to the first day of school? Some parents sending their children off for the first time may have been teary eyed as they reflected on how fast their children had grown up. Other parents may have had that sense of relief with the start of another year and happy to see their children moving to the next thing in life.

This week most of our Washington Conference schools started the first day of the school year! Teachers received their students well-prepared for the coming school year, carefully preparing their classrooms for their new group of students. Many students, while of course not saying it, were actually excited to be back at school with new clothes and backpacks filled with carefully selected school supplies.

Education is wonderful development for our minds helping us to grow as individuals. Adventist Christian education however is more than just our wonderful school system. It begins in our homes as we teach our children to...

Inside the NAD Teachers' Convention Exhibit Hall

Engaging, friendly, wonderful, and fun were words used by exhibitors at the NAD Teachers’ Convention to describe their interactions with attendees. Throughout the four-day convention in Chicago Illinois, 6,000 participants engaged with more than 200 exhibits that featured classroom supplies, early childhood education, Adventist ministries, core curriculum services, textbooks, professional development, and online educational resources.

AMEN Port Orchard Serves Community!

Before the clinic began last weekend, AMEN Port Orchard was having a tough time finding an optometrist to be able to provide vision care. The night before the first day of the clinic, Oswald Rondón, an optometrist from Montana called and said he needed three things to be able to volunteer. It wasn’t long after this conversation took place that all three conditions were met and he was able to volunteer with his son!

“I’m doing God’s work,” says Rondón. “Jesus healed more than He preached and this is part of God’s working ministry.”

By the end of the weekend, the AMEN clinic had served 97 dental patients, 94 vision patients, and 66 medical patients, 161 physical medicine patients, and 208 residents who received individualized lifestyle coaching and spiritual support and prayer from a clinic Chaplain; an overall total of 257 residents!

Vacation Bible Schools Emphasize Service!

Every summer, churches host a Vacation Bible School (VBS) filled with fun interactive activities for the youth in their community. This year, Forest Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in Everett, Wash., and Kent Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kent, Wash., added service projects to their programs!

Forest Park SDA Church partnered with Beautiful Soles, a local non-profit committed to strengthening the community by providing socks and shoes to local youth in need. They surpassed their goal of 50 by collecting 70 pairs of shoes!

Kent SDA Church also collected over 3,500 diapers to donate to a local charity!

What service elements have you seen being implemented in your Churches' Vacation Bible Schools?
