Running the Good Race

by Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Two years ago I ran in my first 5K. It was one of those color runs that as you navigate the course of the race they throw different colors of dye at you. By the end of the race you are covered with all sorts of bright colors.

It was a fun time with family and great exercise. It really took very little preparation. We just signed up and went. At the end we were given a medal on a ribbon.

For one brief moment I imagined that I was an Olympian standing on the podium and the national anthem was playing. But then I snapped to reality!

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 compares the life of the Christian to that of an Olympian. But here it paints a picture of Christians that have a race to run no doubt. They have a crown to win as well.  But the crown is one that will last forever (vs 25) and everyone is running with a purpose (vs 26).

Friends, please take a moment today and commit to the race. Jesus will run with you and keep you company on the journey.

eHuddle 2018

Washington Conference sent five representatives to this year's eHuddle (evangelism huddle) at the North American Division: Craig Carr, vp for administration; Benjamin Orian, South Tacoma Adventist Fellowship pastor; Dustin Serns, Port Orchard Adventist Church pastor; Tyler Long, evangelism coordinator; and Randy Maxwell, Renton Adventist Church pastor. (During free time in the evenings, our team toured national sites in Washington, D.C., including the Lincoln Memorial pictured here.)

"A lot of people seem to think evangelism is dead. It’s not dead. It’s just different," reflects Pastor Orian. "I really enjoyed David Franklin's presentation with his three R’s: The church needs great 1 - Reputation 2 - Restoration 3 - Replication. It was positive, practical, and personal."

You can follow #eHuddle18 tweets and watch Facebook Live sessions of the keynote presentations (thanks to the North American Division Facebook page).

Teaching Children to #SayYesToJesus

Have you taken a look at Children's Ministries lately? The resources and training available for children's ministry leaders is remarkable for helping young children grow in their Adventist faith! The North American Division is continuing to grow its eight-track leadership certification program.

Already here in Washington, we've had 100 leaders work through the first two training tracks. The third training track will be presented the March 9 (in English, Spanish & Russian). Children's Ministry leaders will also preview Vacation Bible eXperience programs: March 10 (Spanish only) and March 11 (English & Russian only). These training sessions will be distinctly honored by the presence of world church children's ministry leader Linda Koh who will be the keynote trainer.

Encourage your children's ministry leaders to attend this training weekend, and consider giving your children's ministry leaders a "weekend off"!
