The Lead

Hello Broomfield Soccer Club families,

I hope this finds you well, and having found success on and off the field as we wrap up the fall season.  A great season it was, with teams winning both State and President's Cup championships, several finishing at the top of their league, and the continued fun and development of our youngest players.  We couldn't be prouder of our players, and the great effort, skill and character they've shown on and off the field throughout the fall season.

As we head into winter (yes, it will come eventually), we will have our indoor facility, the Sport Stable, fully up and running for the first time.  The primary focus of this issue is a look forward to the programming being provided for you, our members, over the winter months.  From leagues, tournaments, and the exciting new Freestyle Futsal program, there truly is something for everyone who wants to come out and play!  If you have not yet made it out to the facility, I am confident that once you see it, you'll share in our excitement for the future.

I look forward to seeing you out there, and wish the best for everyone over the holiday season!

Mike Schrad
Executive Director, Broomfield Soccer Club

Come join Broomfield Soccer Club this winter for the first ever session of Freestyle Futsal! Broomfield Soccer Club’s Freestyle Futsal is not a league but an organized drop in for players during the off season. With Freestyle Futsal, there are no commitments to teams or leagues, you can sign up for one session or all of them and with the age groups alternating every other week you can play in sessions that fit your schedule best.

Here’s how Freestyle works:

  • All games played at the Sport Stable
  • Each session is one hour
  • 15 players in each session by age group
  • 15 players on one field, split into 3 teams of 5
  • Four minute games and the winner can stay on the field for a maximum of three games
  • Kick ins only
  • Alternating goalkeepers every four minutes
  • No slide tackling
  • Cleats are allowed
  • No coaching

Freestyle Futsal is played with a weighted ball and on a small field that encourages a lot of touches on the ball, quick decision making, and creativity.  When you come to Broomfield Soccer Club’s Freestyle Futsal, you sign up as an individual but play as a team!

Registration is open now.  We offer 1 hour time slots by age group.  Registration is done on an individual basis.  The cost is $10 per session.  Each session is capped at 15 players.  Once the session has filled, you can register your child on the waitlist.  If a spot opens up, you will receive an email to accept or decline a spot.  Registration will close on Friday at 12:00p each week.  If there are still open spots remaining after 12:00p, it will be posted on the BSC Facebook page.  Walk-ups will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Competitive Soccer Update

State Cup and President's Cup Champions

On Oct 2, the Broomfield Blast 01 Girls Prestige took on FC Boulder in the U16 Girls State Cup Final. After conceding the first goal of the game, Broomfield equalized the score towards the end of the 1st half with strong central combination play, freeing Mira Houck for a shot from the top of the 18 that tucked inside the left post. In the second half, Broomfield took the lead off a free kick from about 45 yards out. Haley Klasner provided a great service that was initially cleared by Boulder. Miranda Sanchez won the clearance and served a high left-footed ball back into the box that found Mira Houck. Houck finished from inside the six yard box for her second goal of the game. Broomfield, through great defensive, goalkeeping, and attacking efforts, held on to win 2-1. As a brand-new team, this is the group's first State Cup title together. This was the third straight State Cup title for Sanchez and Jackie Coffman, who earned championships previously under Coach David Castro. The State Cup Final MVP was Mira Houck.

In the afternoon contest, the Broomfield Blast 01 Girls Magista competed against Real Colorado Athletico for the U16 Girls Presidents Cup Final. Through a tough battle, Broomfield and Real entered halftime tied 0-0. In the 2nd half, Real scored to take the lead 1-0 with approximately 15 minutes remaining. Broomfield could not find the equalizer until stoppage time when Rylee MacLennan dribbled into the opposing 18 yard box and was fouled, earning a penalty kick for Broomfield. Joli Reeves stepped up and converted the penalty kick with seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. In overtime, Broomfield bottled their momentum, earning an early corner kick. Reeves got free in the box and scored the go-ahead goal. As another brand-new team, this is the team's first Presidents Cup title win. Both teams are coached by Megan Remec.

The effort, hard work, and Colorado titles earned by both teams are a great testament to the strength and depth of the entire 01 birth year and U16 age group at Broomfield Soccer Club. Both teams are grateful to the Broomfield Soccer Club administration, coaching staff, and families for their great support throughout both tournaments. The 01 Girls Magista will compete in the Presidents Cup Regionals in June 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 01 Girls Prestige will travel to Seattle, Washington in June 2017 to compete in the Far West Regional.

BSC Futsal

As we ramp up our winter programming, I wanted to pass on a quick update on a few items at the Sport Stable.  Please read this carefully, as there are some changes to the facility that will affect your training and futsal sessions.

1 – The parking lot is paved, but is not 100% complete.  We anticipate days where the parking lot will be at capacity.  There is an overflow parking lot just to the west of the main parking lot, and is additional parking on the south side of the building.

2 – The entrance is no longer on the north side, but is on the west side in the middle of the building, near the new roundabout.  Once in the building, just take a left and you'll see the turf section.

3 – The Town of Superior is in the process of putting in a roundabout on McCaslin Blvd. to help with traffic.  Until that is complete, you will take a left turn into the facility directly off of McCaslin (no more U-turn).

4 – There is still a bit of construction going on inside of the building, as the restaurant and coffee shop finish their buildout.  The anticipated finish of these amenities is late January/early February.  Please be aware and observe all blocked off areas.

5 – As with all turf, there is absolutely NO food or drink allowed (only water).  Obviously, no pets are allowed either.

6 - Players’ bags can be set along the sidelines on the turf.  If left outside of the turf area, they must be lined up along the boards or hung on the available hooks in order to keep the walking areas clear and comply with fire code.

7 – DO NOT raise and lower the dividing curtains.

8 – Spectator seating is available on the bleachers that are on the lower level in the middle.  With the curtains raised spectators will be able to see all fields from the bleachers.  When the restaurant is finished, additional seating will be available there.

9 – Though the weather has been beautiful, the rain and snow will come.  When it does, please plan to change in to cleats at the facility, so as to not track mud onto the turf.  There is a locker/changing room available for both boys and girls.

Please refer to the map below if you are not familiar with the location of the Sport Stable.  We hope you enjoy your time in this beautiful new facility!
